Cars: Which one would be the best one for me?

Danman

Aight guys, my Dad said if I sold my current car; he would help me on getting a better one. These are the cars I'm interested in, I am taking Summer Term at UCF so I need to commute back and forth for the summer.

- 1999 to 2001 VW Jetta GLS
Just awesome. 😀 I can get a used 2001 Jetta for around 12,500.

- 2002 to 2003 Toyota Corolla S
I can get a brand new one a little under 14 base. But with the options it's gonna be a little over 15. My Dad mentioned this one.

- 2003 Mazda Protege5 or Protege
Just liked how it looked, don't know on price though.

This is all I can think of right now. Any other suggestions? I'm looking for something fairly new with low mileage. Thanks guys! 🙂

If I was you, I definitely roll with a Jetta 1.8T or VR6, so you drive like zoom zoom. But the Corolla S is definitely a sweet looking car.

go with a real car, something like a Ford Focus 😀

out of those I would get a Corolla S or Protege 2nd choice. (maybe an MP3)

I think the Protege looks better, but the Corolla S is a little nicer overall.

yeah go with the jetta, if u want power get the vr6, costly but awsome to drive, a friend of mine has one, man does it pick up and go. I looked into coroallas before i bought my car, good price and decent power and options for the price that is. Plus the jetta will run for ever, german cars are like tanks, 150k miles is like a walk in the park.
Dude your getting a jetta hehe

because you'll be doing a lot of driving ... you need a car that won't brake down ... and Toyota's known for that ... so go for the corolla ... you just can't go wrong with that car !!!!!

Get the Toyota. It's the most reliable of the bunch and the fact it's new with a new warranty is nice as well. Plus they look good.

puAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!! FORD stands for Fix Or Repair Daily or Found On Road Dead. puAHAHAHHAHA!!! A Focus will die out way before a Jetta does. The Corolla S will last even longer and it's a fact.

Based on looks and utility, I'd say Protege5. Will be great when hauling crap too and from school on weekends/vacations.

The Corolla S looks ugly, but has the nicest interior and build quality.

I'd say its a tossup between the P5 and Corolla. The Mazda costs more, but there aren't nearly as many of them on the road. Plus, you can get a turbo package from FlyinMiata.net.😀

I'd probably go with the Protege5 as well, that extra cargo room can come in handy. I like the Jetta (great interior) but VW has had a lot of reliability issues come up lately.

Protoge for sure. Didn't like the Jetta, never liked the Corolla at all ESPECIALLY the newer ones.. fugly. That leaves the Protoge or Protoge 5. I'd go with just the Protoge, myself.

I think the Corolla is a girlie car only because out of maybe 30 of the new ones I've seen driving around, 28 of them had female drivers. But then again thats just near me. The Jetta and Mazda seem gender neutral.

What about a Sentra though? I think they are around the same prices as the others...

Protege5. I'd also look into a Subaru TS Wagon. More power, more options, more saftey, excellent reliabilty, good price too.

I didn't know they had the internet in Special Education? Man that is the funniest joke I have ever heard. Did you make that up yourself?

I dunno. After 9 or 10 recalls, 4 or 5 of which were QUITE dangerous, and about 2000 posts of unhappy owners over at Edmunds....the Focus doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me 😱

If you are serious about school get the cheapest, most reliable, cheapest to maintain car you can find. In the long run it will play big time if put as much time and attention as you can into doing well in school and not a car

I own a 2002 Protege ES. It's a sweet car, I LOVE throwing it into corners, amazing handling.

Id go with the Pro5 though in electric blue....drool I saw one the other day and couldnt help looking a lil longer and wishing I got that instead.

Every car has tons of recalls. Especially in its first 5 or so years... But hey VW owners have been screwed royally several times.

Since the average rate for gratuating at that school is about 7yrs, the Corolla is the best choice.....last longest and best on gas.
Although I like the looks of the regular Protege the best.

Personally, I like the Protoge 5 the best. It's not horribly ugly like the Carolla, and it doesn't have the reliability issues that the recent VWs have had. Plus, the Protoge 5 has been universally praised for its road manners and it will have enough space to cart junk around when you're moving into the dorms since it's a 5-door. The Protoge 5 would be the most practical choice, and I doubt that it would be any less fun than the other cars.

Be realistic in picking a car, whether its cool or not. In the end its just your commuter car that will take you from A to B. You want to pick something will take the beating of commute and won't burn your pocket at the gas station.

Do you research and see which has the best track record for low mainteance.

Also with a base model Toyota, you are really looking at base model which won't have a good resale value. If you do get the Toyota, get the S type.

You can get a perfect used Cadillac DeVille with a two year complete warranty for that. It will be ten times those other cars in every way. The commute will be a dream and you will also want to enjoy an occasional cigar as you drive.

Didn't Japaneses car makers just loose in court about not calling recalls recalls? :Q
