umm Lexus anything? Especially the ES350/Camry. RX350/Highlander. LX/4Runner. Yet somehow Lexus won top US sales the past 11 years (not this year).

The Cimarron is a rebadged Cavalier. Probably available under $5k.

I would think that the Cimarron by Cadillac(it was actually marketed this way and not called the Cadillac Cimarron) can be had for around $500 nowadays.

Geo Metro = Suzuki Swift
Geo Storm = Isuzu Impulse
Geo Tracker = Suzuki Sidekick
1980's Chevy Nova = Toyota Corolla(it had a submodel but I forget which one)

The 626 platform was used for the 2-door Mazda MX6, on which the Probe was based. The 626, MX6, and Probe are substantively identical in terms of core mechanical and chassis components. The differences were primarily limited to bodywork and interior trim.

ZV

Interesting story of differing corporate cultures clashing during their development.

The lead was taken by Mazda -- their pieces, their development. However, their partner Ford forced the Mazda engineers to go right back to the drawing board after their initial proposal, to re-engineer things so that the needed firewall was significantly lower, so they could make their Probe lower and "swoopier."

Seems at Ford, the stylists had precedence and told the engineers what to do, while at Mazda, the engineers always had precedence, and presented the stylists with a product they had to style around. :hmm:

Close. The Vibe is shared with the Toyota Matrix.
Not only that, they were made on the same assembly line at the same time at the now closed NUMMI factory. Actually, I think one of the electric car start ups bought that factory, and got a steal of a deal for it, too, considering its relative modernity and capabilities.

Does this count...?

For the longest time Chevy trucks and GMC trucks were just an emblem away from being identical... They still are under the sheet metal but atleast GM decided to change a few other things style wise... Then came Cadillac...:p

Yeah. The GMC's would have slightly stiffer springing and an only slightly different grill --and sometimes what looked like only a different logo on the same grill.

But, during their long history mutual history, GM did try to also differentiate them by giving GMC some different engines. In the 40's and 50's, I know, GMC featured fairly different, larger straight sixes than you could get in a Chevy truck, and in the early 60's, GM gave the Buick developed V-6 to GMC to use instead of the stovebolt.

Ended up buying a car over the weekend.

Couldn't find a Prizm in decent condition so I went ahead and looked around Saturday.

Found a 2004 Elantra GT with 130,xxx miles. Leather, clean interior w/ stock kenwood system. Power windows/locks, automatic. It's very spacious inside and compact out. 1 Owner

Paid 3200

Some rust but it seemed to be common for anything under 3500. I live in Ohio.
There is some rust on the roof, I plan to get an estimate, but doesn't seem too much of an issue. I plan to keep this at least 3 more years while im finishing up my degree. Just needed a car to get groceries and go home etc...

I already replaced the tires ~340 (bridgestone potenza's)
Having my mechanic look at it on Saturday for a tuneup and maybe replace the valve cover gasket.

Otherwise the car shifts very smoothly, the engine is more than enough. Much more comfortable ride than the Civic.

It was marketed as a Cadillac, without qualification. "______ by Cadillac" was not meant to separate it from the rest of their line. It had been used in the past on models that no one would argue were lesser models.

$500, no argument there.

1-3 correct, 4 is wrong, but close... 1980s Chevrolet Nova is a rebadged Toyota Sprinter offered only in Japan in the 80s! http://www.saintclassified.pk/uploads/1986-toyota-sprinter-6213e.jpg is proof!

Calling out the OP. Since this thread was bumped, give us an update. How did the Elantra work out for you?

Eagle Talon / Plymouth Laser = Mitsubishi Eclipse

Ford Probe and Mazda MX6 are both 2 doors. 626 was the 4 door version.
