For like 3 years I've used Myfitnesspal off and on, I use to use it all the time but I haven't touched it for awhile now. I stumbled upon Carrot Hunger in the app store today.
I installed it and it's suppose to be some computer system called Carrot and almost instantly the computer voice started to insult me, it asked for my age and weight then told me I was lying and to go weigh myself again lol. 2 times today it popped up insults, when logging dinner it told "wow food again? what are you going to eat next the kitchen sink?"
It also said something about how I was rude and my mom obviously didn't teach me any manners. But it wasn't surprised because since I was overweight and needed to use a calorie counter my mom probably hadn't taught me how to eat properly either. OUCH lol.
It's not as fleshed out as MFP, it doesn't have a section that breaks down the food you log with a bar graph showing % for your macros which sucks. It does break down any food you've eaten with their nutritional values which is a start. You can also log exercise, and from the bit I've entered and searched the food database seems good. The free version you can only manually enter food. For $1.99 you can unlock the ability to scan barcodes and add multiple items at the same time. I put in I want to lose 2lb a week and it said I get 1840 calories a day, MFP was somewhere around 1400, not sure which is more accurate but I would assume MFP. I also like how when I entered my breakfast it said I would have to run for an hour to burn off the calories.
I like that you can set it to show how many calories you've eaten or have left as a badge. You can set it up to publicly shame you on your Twitter account if you go over your calories. And it will throw random insults your way if you're not sticking to eating right. I know this isn't a MFP replacement, it's missing some of the important core features but it can interact with the Health app in iOS 8.0 and it's really fun. Never thought I'd have a good time using a calorie counting app but this one's pretty damn cool. I'm 5'11 and 195lb and it tagged me as "big boned" and my avatar is overly plump cartoon looking person. I tried to select the gentlemen avatar and it said I was too fat to be a gentleman lol.
This app definitely isn't for people who are sensitive about their weight or can't take rude humor. I think the mean spirited natural will motivate me. The worse you do the more upset the computer gets and the more it poops on you.
Oh yeah your default name is Meatbag, I decided not to change it.
