There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world
Let millions of them act barbaric and psycho.
There are still plenty out there with brains.
I'm not talking about that. The governments of muslim countries want Danish government to apologize??? Which it ofcourse cannot do, not on behalf of an independent newspaper, in a country where what it did was not wrong! (Just bad judgement, and the newspaper DID apologize)
Now many muslim GOVERNEMENTS are condemning Denmark for not apologizing, adding more fuel to the flames.
If in the muslims view a single newspaper is representative of a country, then in my view several muslim governments are representative of the muslim world.
Not many Muslim countries are democratic meaning they were not elected by the people
meaning
they are just a bunch of morons whose opinions/views do not really reflect on the majority of their populations.
Maybe I would say that was true if there were some Muslim leaders pretty much anywhere in the world who were not screaming and yelling and demanding the apology from the danish, and condemning the concept of the right of the newspaper to print the articles.
But I would have to think that the anger here is universal, it's not a matter of stereotyping, it's a fundamental crossing of cultural boundaries. To muslims worldwide this is a massive transgression against the most basic of principals. It could be compared to the way the catholic church views for example homosexuality... x 1.2 billion people.
To me it seems like the culture clash between Muslims and the rest of the world could eventually be catastrophic. Their cultural norms cross fundamentally with our own to the point that the liberal among us go so far as to condemn us for saying things about muslims that for most muslims are in fact true and they really don't have a problem with being true.
Simply the concept that one is willing to blow themselves up "among the enemy" as legitimate resistance. The majority of the muslim world DOES in fact see this as legitimate resistance. This concept is no more controversial in their society than gay rights or abortion are in ours.
The concept that the world should become muslim, and Sharia should eventually govern the world. These are widely accepted concepts.
Most muslims FROM the muslim world don't really see anything wrong with these.
Just like we view it being ok to print stories, or show pictures of things that Islam says is forbidden. We think nothing of publishing a caricature of god, or anyone else some in our society may see as sacred. Even when it's offensive, the most people will do is complain about it, write letters and get upset. It is seen as poor taste, but certainly not illegal. In a muslim society it's debateable whether the offense warrants the death penalty or some other criminal sentence.
It is a fundamental difference in cultural norms. And I think in the end the result will be catastrophic.
