Hey guys, I'm sure a lot of you have CarPuters and I wanted to start a thread concerning the intricacies of building a computer in your car. I've been scouring the net the last few days trying to find good CarPuter guides and I can't really find any GOOD ones. I was hoping that people experienced in doing something like this would share their stories, point to articles online that can't be found from google, and maybe answer questions some n00bs like myself have.
Some topics could include:
How to hook up power from your computer to the car battery;
Running the audio signal from the computer to the receiver;
Hooking up a GPS to the computer;
LCD installations;
Grounding and electrical noise issues;
Getting the computer/GPS starting/stopping upon turning on/off the ignition;
What parts you used/recommend for creating a good carputer;
What method(s) do you use to interact with your computer (wireless keyboard/mouse, trackball, touchpad, etc.)
What GPS/software do you use;
Any helpful Winamp plugins that you wrote/use;
Any other pertinent info that would be helpful.
I REALLY want to do something like this in my car (2002 Dodge Stratus SXT), but I can't pull enough GOOD information together to be able to map out a good plan. I'm sure there are many other people on this forum in my place too. Hopefully, the collective IQ from this forum can help out some of us who aren't so good at doing stuff like this (like me). Let's see how many MacGyver's we have here.
