Most stain removal products work only on fresh (< couple days) stains. You could try letting it soak in any number of cleaning agents but speaking from experience you're better off getting new carpet.
If you're renting and thinking about getting your security deposit back, good luck.

You can get a nice big area rug and cover it up. Might make the room look nicer or atleast different...

Try spot shot, you can pick it up at home Depot. It works great.

I bought this stuff to degrease the engine on my wife's old car.
I happened to read the description on the back one day and noticed it cleans all this other stuff. I have yet to find a stain this can't remove.
Plus, you can pick it up in any automotive store.

So we have spotshot and oxyclean. Do I have to do a lot of elbow work with either of these? Or is it just apply it, wait a bit, then sponge/cloth it out to soak up the stains??

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

Not sure if you can find it where you live, but there's somce stuff named Clear Choice Carpet Cleaner that is amazing. Works fast, requirse little or no elbow grease and is pretty cheap. I find it a lot of the time at the Homeland stores around here

Spot shot = just spray and dab with cloth

oxyclean = mixing proper portions based on fabric and stain, pouring or dabbing on spot, sometimes scrubbing with brush, dapping to remove excess water and hope that it works. Also if you have any left you cannot store it in a sealed container.

I have used both and Spot Shot is by far easier and better.
