A quick question concerning new carpet.

The seller has put new carpet in the house. Closing is next month and we expected the seller to go and move what little furniture he still has there. After closing, we will have movers move the big items into the house.

The question is.. the new carpet still look very new to me (installed less than three weeks ago). Wife wants to get a rug doctor from homedepot to shampoo and clean it. Is it necessary? I have heard that some times shampooing new carpet might actually make it a magnet for dirt.

Personally, if it were mine, I would wait until after winter to shampoo. You will likely be tracking in mud, salt, and other things going in and out, due to moving. If you shampoo now, you will likely need to do it again in about 8 or 12 weeks. We shampoo our carpets about 2 or 3 times a year depending, but always after winter.

it leaves the carpet wet. that in itself will attract dirt, and you cant effectively vacuum it up. I wouldn't wash unless you were not going to use it for a few days.
