Carpet or Hard wood floors: what's your pick?

Bush is anti-carpet, but supports a strong wood floor. Obama is somewhat neutral between the two, and Al Gore wants to ban everything except grass for flooring in all houses.

Carpet dust can cause asthma, bronchitis, empysema, leukemia, asbestos, gonorrhea- thsi will overload our already overburdened health care system. If you choose to carpet, better move to Canada.😛

I like wood in the public areas (living room, dining room, kitchen, where people are more likely to be wearing shoes) and carpet in the bedroom / office, where I'm more likely to be bare-foot.

that's how I grew up, though... the first floor at my parents house has wood floors, and the upstairs (as well as the bedroom in the basement) are all carpeted.

having just moved out of a place that had carpet beetles... I'm really looking to find a new apartment with 100% wood/tiles.

What about PERGO? I'd like to hear peoples opinion on it.
It sucks. Costs as much or more than real hard woods, adds nothing to your home's value, and even hurts it in some cases, and isn't as tough to boot...regardless of what the manufacturers say. Heck, if it gets wet, it can warp...easily.

Put it in your trailer, but not your house.

Wood in the living room, den, dining room, and office type rooms. Carpet in the bedrooms. Tile in the kitchen and bathroom.

I like hardwood in public areas. My house has hardwood in the living and dining rooms and the foyer. Granite for the kitchen, carpet for the family room. The stairway is hardwood, but once you hit upstairs where the bedrooms are, it's all carpet. Bedroom in carpet area is a lot better.

I think Asians tend to prefer carpet, and whites tend to prefer hardwood flooring. Just check out the houses that are built around my neighborhood. Those multimillion dollar new houses are targetted at none other than Asians who are willing to pay millions to move their kids to a top notch high school. Fancy HW and granite downstairs, carpet upstairs =]

Hardwood FTW. Carpet has stuffs underneath it and unless you get the pro to do a deep steam cleanning, it is nasty.

i prefer carpet in bedrooms, and family rooms, dining rooms are nice w/ hardwood, and really are the only places i would put hardwood....when i wanna lay down and watch a movie i don't want to lay on a hard solid surface, its nice to have a bit of carpet there.
