Carfax question

Darn, y'all are good. The change of the VIN by one digit/letter is about all it'd take to produce a false Carfax report. And dealers with Carfax accounts do have the power to add/create an account, unlike us, the consumers. Sure, we can add anything to a Carfax report, but it won't show up.

Good catch, guys. And I think you're right, Vivi....the legit Carfax should at least show the vehicle's original sale/registration and titling by the original owner.

Be wary of that car.

Yeah, it was an insta red flag when I first saw it ... i'll try contacting carfax if getting the VIN does not pan out.

Just a thought, perhaps it went to Canada? BMW should be able to tell you the original dealer, that's why I wonder about Canada. I believe they use different systems.

Besides the "Mystery of the Missing History", did you notice the fact that it was sold in June, and then it popped up for sale again at the same dealership in 3 months?

Either that, or someone at the dealerships been driving for the whole 6 months (Mar to Sep) and racked up 5k miles as a daily driver.

That much I know, the dealer said they gave the car to a manager for a year or so, for his wife to drive.

I called the local BMW dealer and they have no record past whats in the carfax, no origination even...so weird.

Something is up. I don't think I've seen a dealer unable to locate any reports whatsoever...they may have checked it in the wrong system, I would say. There should be something specific in place for showing the full warranty history of the car. E.g. Ford has 'Oasis.' And many will staple such a report directly to the repair orders for every car that comes through service. I've never seen one that didn't at least list the dealer of car, typically along with the sale date and mileage (when it was new...you'll see them recorded as single digit miles....if it's a few thousand, it was probably a loaner or a demo).

Weird right? I'm flying down sat, ticket was cheap enough wurst case I fly home 🙂

I've actually guy other business in SC do it does work out...anything there I should see before I head home?
