I graduated from high school and I don?t know what career to pick. Its either Nursing or Engineer. I love working with computers but my uncle who is an engineer right now says that engineering is becoming outsource. And that nursing is a much stable job. What do u guys think which job is better?

Engineering is on the upswing right now. Computer Programming is outsourced.

Nursing is a great profession though.

Just pick one and go Pre-med so that you can have options later on. Don't end up like I did in college. 🙁
 
Engineers are in very high demand. Software engineering might be going overseas, but most other disciplines are pretty good markets and pretty solid markets.

I'm a MechE, so I might be biased, but I won't be living on the streets when I graduate.
 
There's so much demand for nurses right now - question is, what's most important to you?Doing something you can always look forward to but may need to deal with instability or doing something you like most of the time and having the assurance of always having work?

I would encourage you to pursue Engineering, I think. There really is work out there, and it can be a stable field once you break into it. It's just that initial job hunting for the first time that is challenging.

How many ladies are in engineering?
How many ladies are in nursing?

Your choice is obvious.
 
if you can handle the blood and guts, i would vote for healthcare/nursing

that can never be outsourced and with all the baby boomers over the hill, demand will continue to rise in health care
 
There will ALWAYS be demand for GOOD engineers. If you're willing to invest time and effort and pursue a degree from a good school, I'm sure you could find work later on. And as one poster here wisely said, it's only the initial phase that should trouble you, when you're experienced it's much easier to come up with a job.
I wouldn't worry too much about outsourcing. You'll see the trend stablizing. Outsourcing usually does not yield innovation, it's good for dirty works you wouldn't wanna do anyway but when it comes to stuff important to the companies I'm sure it would remain on US soil.

Also, I'd believe engineering has a much potential income, and great places to work at. High tech workers get alot of perks, nice offices, etc. Also, what would be your career path as a nurse compared to that of an engineer?

I dunno becoming an enginner kinda scares me..suppose i graduate and dont find a job around my area =[ i am living in san jose (silicon valley) and i would really hate if i had to move
 
That's not such a good reason for giving up from the beginning, is it? Do you have any solid ground to believe you'll do worse than the next guy studying Engineering?

I mean, if you don't really like it then OK; I'm not one to encourage doing things you can't stand for the rest of your life. But if you're drawn to it, then by all means do it.

 
software engineers sounds good and i would try my best for my job but finding jobs just scares me..but nursing ill probably get a job right away but i kinda dont like being a nurse but if i HAVE to be a nurse then i will..

Yes you are. Do what you like, and consider yourself lucky to like something as solid and profitable as engineering. Hell, people who doesn't like engineering one bit enroll it just because of the money, so you're turning AWAY from it for the same reason?


 
maybe you should just take a couple years off to think about it
get a job at arby's and live with 3-4 drug addicts in a slum so your rent is low enough to afford on your arby's wages

it might be easier to decide after a couple years of living like that

that's what all the cool people do.
 
Blend the two and go for radiology. It's heavily computer based. And in a *very* safe industry career wise.

2 year program, good pay, job security. Not a bad gig.
 
what you enjoy more perhaps? Check out a couple first aid/EMT courses. If you enjoy it and get into it, nursing might be for you.

If you don't think you will like it, you won't. Engineering is the way to go. You can do anything with an engineering degree. Be prepared to work hard for five years to get it though.
 
My dad is almost 60 and an EE, he's had his job since his late 20's and the only time he's lost his job is when the whole company actually shut down. Then he got another job with higher pay in a couple of weeks. He gets payed a lot for an engineer (86,000) because of his seniority. I'm thinking about dropping my dreams of CIS and going for Engineering.
 
haha thats cool but yur dad can get a job easier since he has experience u know? Like for me if i jsut graduate its going to be hard for me to find a job becuse i dont have experience
