Just got the worst news imaginable in my current situation.

I was taking Cisco Network Academy classes at the local junior college and was just notified that the 4th class out of 4 is canceled, and won't be offered again until next March.

The only thing keeping me from going insane was the prospect that after this last 8 week class I would be ready for the CCNA take the test and start applying for jobs to get me out of my current career. Having something completely out of my control ruin that timetable has got to be the most depressing thing I've had to endure in recent memory. Without that faint glimmer of hope keeping me grinding through my workdays I don't know what to do. Completely lost right now.

Maybe 15 or so beers will make me feel better. :\

Is it possible to take the last course at another local college if you plead your case?

I don't know that there's 8 weeks worth of content in CCNA, let alone 4 x 8 weeks.

LOL you don't need a class to get through the CCNA - that's one of the easiest of the Cisco exams. Just go to Barnes & Noble and buy a book.

There is so much learning material on the internet and from books you should be able to learn the material enough to take and pass the test. Don't give up. Go to the library and see what they have. Also check out your local used book stores. They tend to have older ccna stuff. Even though some of the older material does not apply some of it does. Those books also have practice exams that are a good to work through.

Amazon's used books are also great.

Google Books has a ton of stuff online for free, downloadable at a cost.

Looks like most CCNA books are between $15 and $30. Pretty cheap. I still don't understand why the Kindle editions cost more than the physical books.

I have crunched the CCNA through youtube videos; watched the entire series about 5 times then started reading a book; after watching it on youtube, it absorbs in super easy. The youtube videos on VLSM and calculating binary subnetting are extremely helpful as well.

I plan on doing it all myself now obviously. I was just completely bummed last night. My main issue is that I lack the discipline to finish things outside of the classroom.

if you've been through almost all of the classes, it should almost all be a refresher for you?

I read the whole A+ study guide in a couple days, took the practice test to see what I needed to study more on, then re-read the subjects I sucked at. Took another practice test and passed with no issue.

I'm sure the CCNA is a bit tougher (maybe?) but you should be fine. Have you taken the practice test yet?

Just treat it like a job. Schedule 2-3 hours a day that you will study the material. Turn off the distractions like TV and your cell phone and get to work.

Yeah but bf4 though?

Main issue is my job. 10 hour days on salary is the most mentally draining thing on earth.

On a related note, what would be the best way to hurt the college financially? Social media?

The classes all got cancelled because they didn't want to pay the teacher benefits because he would have taught enough credits to be considered full time. They screwed him and about 100 students over health insurance. Articles to news, twitter, Facebook?

Why try and hurt the college? I would concentrate on crunching through the rest of your material first and pass the exam; there are more important things to do that aren't spite related.

If you want to stick it to the man, spread the word about what they did, and spread any proof you have, allegations are a dime per dozen.

That is really just a minor set back. You need to relax.

I hope you have a significant amount of related experience in the jobs you are looking for because a ccna isn't going to get you a job.

That's annoying. May have happened because the old 640-802 CCNA exam ceased to exist on September 30 and was replaced by 200-120.

So you'll need to study the new material from the beginning since they changed and updated a lot of stuff. Your school should really have been prepared for this change or at least told students about it. The good news is that if you've taken 3 out of 4 classes, you're almost there. You should be able to fill in the gaps and prepare on your own in 8 - 10 weeks or less.
