I too got into Phase II but was not selected for hire - this was nearly a three year process for me. You basically get two chances and if they don't pick you up on the second round, then that's it. You basically have to be a perfect candidate in every way and then have a background in whatever area they may have a need for.

So, my advice to you is that if you can not even bother to investigate for yourself what you need to do for the FBI Special Agent process then you have absolutely no business at all to apply for the position - I would doubt that you could get through the Phase I testing.

To get into the FBI, is anyone familiar with the process? Do I have to go through police academy? Do I have to be on the police force for a few years in general first? What kind of things do I need to do to get in?

I'd like to work on computer crime cases mostly.

a letter from your congressman would help immensly.

all fbi (including computer geeks) are required to cary a gun. can you handle a 10mm?

no police background necessary. but u do need to pass a credit and background check.

Wrong on just about every single account.

One of the best ways is college to an internship. My debate partner is a dual major (psychology and criminal justice) and just got into an internship with them for 6 months. They have a very high hiring rate out of such opportunities.

I'm pretty sure all the FBI HRT guys had tactical training with military special operation community and/or SWAT experience before they joined FBI.

Dude, I read this book. It is on my shelf. And he has none of background you think he has.
Here's a quote from amazon book description:
With his liberal arts background and experience as a D.C. speechwriter, Whitcomb was an unusual candidate for special agent.

They were trained BY the FBI.
