Card Reader Converter?

Is there anything that would convert a specific type of card reader to another? For instance, say you have a laptop with a built in card reader, however it doesn't support the type of media you use.
 
Laptops have PCMCIA slots so you can buy the appropriate adapters for them and plug in. Compact Flash is by far the cheapest since it's just a straight through pin-adapter. SD and others require circuitry so they cost a lot more.

Correct! An, laptops also have USB ports which will accept any of the el cheapo PnP readers.
