hey,

i currently have a ati 7000 (whooaa is this guy behind the times), but don't game (jesus!) so factoring in fps results don't have a high level of interest for me. i am going to buy a new lcd monitor though and would like to get a new vid card. am i to expect to see any difference between say an ati 9000 and a 9800 simply for DVD viewing?

one other thing to consider is that i'd like to either get an aiw or a standard vid card and a separate tv capture card.

your thoughts and suggestions?

thanks,
k

If you don't game and want an AIW card with DVI, the AIW 8500 should fit the bill, and not break the bank.

Getting a 9800 instead of a 9000 for simple tv viewing would make no sense. You will not see any difference. In fact, if your going to be using dvi for your lcd then just about any cheap card with dvi out should work fine (if you weren't getting an aiw).

Aye, I'd go with 8500 and a Hauppage tuner card. Do they have HDTV support? If not, ATI manufactures their own HDTV tuner card.

Your existing 7000 has everything it takes for DVD viewing. Just buy a pleasureable LCD screen, with fast technology so you don't get annoying smearing artefacts when watching fast movie action.
