Carbon Fiber Questions

First, where does carbon fiber come from that is used on sports cars?

Next, how are products like hoods made from it, is it something that is poured into a mold and then heated or something?

Also, does it dissipate heat any faster than a metal used on cars or just save weight?

Carbon fiber is actually a cloth that is laminated with an apoxy impregnated resin and baked in a pressurized oven. I assume since it's a cloth that it is woven, but i don't know what it is woven from. There's an episode of Top Gear where they go through the McLaren factory and you see the big rolls of unlaminated carbon fiber.
