May be time for a new ride. :(

My 2000 Maxima SE has been giving lots of problems lately. Now it won't start, won't shift gears properly, and has no acceleration to speak of anymore. Oh well. I'm gonna bring it in to the shop, but if I gotta put alot of money into it I might just save that money and buy a new car. It has about 155k miles, should last longer, but who knows.

lol who the heck drives 35k miles in one year. that car must've been driven like a beater, no wonder it's falling apart only 6 years later. no way a properly handled maxima will crap out in 6 years

Company cars/outside salespeople. In which case, it was probably better maintained than would be average.

Judging from the OP's attitude regarding the car, it's probably his maintenance that has been lacking the last couple of years, although Nissans are not exactly reliable vehicles to begin with.

????????
I've taken exceptional care of this car. Always got oil changes on time, etc. It's just that this car has given me so many problems recently anfter it's been so reliable for years which is why my post sounded the way it did. I'm just tired and fed up with all the problems it's been giving me lately.

I should stress that I don't know if this car is done by any means. I have to see what the mechanics say. I'm just saying that I may be done with it if it requires alot of money to repair.

Nissan is consistently below industry average for reliability, and was worse back in 2000 as it was still recovering from its brush with bankruptcy and subsequent alliance with Renault.

edit: 2006 J.D. Power rankings

Bingo. My father puts about 60,000 miles on his car each year as a sales rep for three states. His current car still runs and drives better than cars with 1/5 the mileage. His previous vehicle, an Explorer, now has over 200,000 miles without any problems at all and is driven daily by my younger sister.

That engine has way more in it.

My dad still has a 2000 maxima and it runs as if it were brand new. The trans on the other hand, not so good in that car. hah

But the car definitely still has life. hopefully acceleration issues and such are something simple...

My 1996 maxima had 218k miles on it when I sold it and the guy who bought it (a friend of mine), drives it 80 miles/day, 5 days a week and he loves it.

It probably has close to 250k on it now and doesnt smoke or anything.

my truck is now 14, 233k miles. still alive. some of these newer cars are too computer based. one thing goes wrong causes another thing, and so on. etc. sensors trip doing this and that making this go bad but then this trips and sets off a signal to not let it start

who knows

if my truck dont starts its- dead battery, no spark, no gas, timing went off again, or it finally blew up. lol. the only real computer in my 1992 chevy worktruck is the ABS lmao, and its dead. :)

My 38 year old Cadillac would like to sit back, relax, and smoke a cigar... Then give me a heart attack by showing me how much fuel it burned last week.
