Its time I waxed my new car for the first time, and i remember hearing good things about both of them...

My car is a Silver 2002 VW Passat 1.8t with a clearcoat (i believe).

Which do you reccomend i get? I know Zaino makes a bunch of different ones, so any help is appreciated.

Zaino doesn't make a "whole bunch of waxes" they make a whole waxing system. If you use Zaino, it takes about 3 weeks to wax your car.

1) Wash the car with dish soap
2) Clay the car w/ Zaino Clay
3) put a coat of Z1 on the car, allow to dry overnight.
4) wipe off Z1, apply Z5, allow to dry overnight.
5) Wipe off Z5, if the car shows scratches or swirl marks, repeat as neccesary, remeber to allow 1 day drying time.
6) Apply Z2 over z5, alow to dry, you guessed it, overnight.
7) Apply Z6.

My friend and I use Zaino exclusively (it turned his black Corvette's hood into a mirror!)- I will never use anything else again, unless Zaino pulls off a miracle and makes their current products better. :Q Absolutely incredible stuff when done right.

Dear lord, is it that much work with klasse?

Ditto this stuff is the bomb

My friend and I got the same results without having to wait a day inbetween steps- we just waited a half hour to an hour where applicable. Did the entire waxing system in an afternoon, and it was worth all the time we put into our cars. This isn't my buddy's Vette, but the results looked just like this.

No idea, never used it.
Actually, I've never used Zaino either, but I've heard enoguh people go ON AND ON AND ON about it. Anyway, it's not worth $75 and all that time to me, when I can wax my car with Megiaurs stuff and have it look 95% as good for 1/7th the cost and 1/10 the time. Hell, it's white, as long as it's shiny you can't see anything on it anyway.

Well.. it's not a "wax".. they never call it a wax because it contains no wax.

Z1 does not need to dry, nor is it removed.
Z2, Z5 drying times vary depending on thickness of application (very very thin coats are all that is necessary), temperature, humdity, etc. Their website says at least 1 hour, I believe the directions on the bottles say at least half an hour. I usually get by with half an hour. Some people can get buy with less. You can use ZFX to reduce drying time.
Z6 does not need to "dry", and should be used after (and in between) coats of Z5 or Z2.

Clearly notfred has never used it.:disgust:
First off, your car is brand new, so you don't need to clay bar it.
Second, you don't remove Z1, nor do you let it dry.
Third, you don't need Z5, because your car is new. However, I suggest getting a bottle as swirlmarks will happen sooner or later. To start though, all you need is the Z1 or the new ZFX, and Z2. I also recommend getting the Z6 though as it adds depth between coats.

As for time, I did both my and my gf car last month in about 4 hours. It only takes about 1 -2 hours for the Z5 or Z2 to dry. The only time you would wait overnight is if you wanted to apply another coat.

It's well worth it.

It may looked like a lot of work, but Zaino is very easy to apply and remove. MUCH easier than wax. Think wipe on, wipe off, Daniel-san.

meguiar's is enough for the majority of people, and is purchasable off the shelf. i'm personally not having anything but zaino touch my baby's skin ever again though.

it's a 6 hr process, and you need to be prepared with a lot of materials. i just placed another order for a mother's clay bar, some zaino, and some terry towels. i've heard of klasse having an infamous haze that makes me prefer going with zaino rather than the hassle of getting around the haze.

check out the autopia forums here for true car enthusiast advice and articles. articles from how to clay your car to detailing the interior, and some hard core garage queens are there as well. it's the ATOT of the auto detailing world

i also need to wax/polish my car.. but zaino is sooo expensive.. my car paint is just some cheapo maaco job to hold me over.. is it worth the zaino?

another problem i have is the only place to wax is in sunlight... in the morning.. and it will continue to sit in sunlight... if i do i in the afternoon, it's really hot (the surface).... blah, the dilema

Looking at the Zaino website, they ask if your car has a clear coat.

Would the wife's '02 Z28 in Rally Red have a clear coat?

Yes

All cars in at least the last 10 years have clear coat.

I've heard a lot of good things about Klasse.... and also Zaino. You know what, both brands are good... you can't go wrong with either.
