Car Warranty question

Senior member
I want to do some customizing work on my truck and was wondering will putting a body or suspension lift on it cause the factory warranty to be voided.
I expect if i do it that the parts i put on and that are directly connected to will not be covered. But ill the engine, tranny , etc. still be covered....??????

Any info you have would be appreciated.

Thanks

ANY.. will void ALL???

well i added a trailer hitch... thats a modification... you need to be more clear please

I think its one of those deals where its "case by case". For instance, if you lift your truck and take it to the dealer with a steering related problem, it is more then likely that they would not fix it under warranty since you did a major modification. I see no reason, however, that adding a lift kit would void the warranty on say the interior, body, or things like the motor, tranny or transfercase. Really though, depending on the dealer they might be far more reluctant to honor your warranty.

I talked to a VW guy once and asked about "chipping" the 1.8T motor. The response I got was that if the the mod is done correctly, ie all the seals are still there and what not, there is no way for the dealer to prove you have done anything and therefore they would be obligated to honor your warranty. In your case there is no disputing that you have done major modifications so at the very least the dealer would have good reason to challenge any warranty claims.

Hope this helps.
