My civic SI just got left on bricks. i will post pics as soon as i get them developed. 4 factory rims (i liked them too) 4 michelin v rated xgt 15's, 180 bucks a tire, anyone know the price of the rims if i go to honda and just pick them up? i was hearing 650. they are a popular set...apparently, i swear if i see civic SI rims on anything but a Civic SI around my neighborhood, they are gonna get a paddling.

thye didnt come factory on the wheels...i used to have locks on my old eclipse but after seeing how easy it is to still take em off, it never crossed my mind. im sure this has happened to other people, any ideas on what i can do/should do? ive called the cops they came by and told me that suxs, see ya, called insurance, they are like, well we call you in one or two days. arg!! im probobly gonna go out and buy new rims and hope i get reimbursed as much as possible. i hope whoever stole my rims gets shot by a real theif, instead of probobly one of these kids who took em. Alarm to be installed friday, new grage door opener over weekend, and thinking about motion sensor lights and an X10 cam for grins. (and electroshocking my car so anyone who touches it, xzzzzz!!!)

yeah, insurance can help, but i would have to pay 500 deduct, meaning, say they gave me full coverage of actual cost, which is around 1300, (650-700 i saw on net for the exact rims, and 180 or so a tire michelin xgt v4) i would take a 500 loss, back down to 800. but they will not pay full cost as we all should konw by now, and prob ony get 500. now point to a decent look rim/tire combo for 500. right.

My brother had his wheels and tires taken off is Jeep Grand Cherokee. They were custom and in new condition. Worth about $2000. He had wheel locks. Wheel locks are OK, but there are many tools out there designed to remove wheel locks.

Anyway, his insurance company paid for a new set. He wanted to catch the theives real bad. He did not replace the wheel locks, but instead placed the car back in the same spot that the original theft took place. He took a blanket and started sleeping in the back seat under a blanket. On the third night, he felt someone jacking up the car. He waited until they had at least one wheel off and then came out of the car with a gun. He called the police with his cell phone and they confessed to the first theft.

They pleaded guilty and they only got 6 months probation!

Wangel,

That's pretty cool that he caught the guy--did he get any reimbursement--did he file civil charges for damages suffered?

Give us some more details!!!

No he did not get reimbursed. He was going to file a civil action against the guy, but since he already got paid by his insurance company, he really wasn't out any money. The insurance company said that this claim was too small, and this guy was trailer trash with no money. So why waste the time. The best feeling is catching the dudes who stole the stuff.

That sucks. Hopefully the thief was putting the stuff in his basement and fell down the stairs and took care of himself.

For replacement tires go with Yokohama AVS Intermediates. They are a great tires and not as expensive as what you had on there.

Wangel, what would have happened if your bro got out of his truck and saw five large men with tire irons? I'm glad everything worked out, but who's to say the thief or possible thieves wouldn't have inflicted bodily harm on him and taken the whole truck.

Yes, SmiZ is right -- there could have been more than one guy. I hope that the next time someone does that they will learn to carry something like a Browning semiautomatic shotgun to take care of those "large" problems. :D

My wife's car was keyed a couple weeks ago. Not quite as dramatic, but still a pain in the ass.

As for protecting your tires, I'm sure you could rig up some claymore mines to each one thereby turning the would-be thief into a fine red mist when he attempted to remove the tires. Sure, your car would be blasted, but it would be extremely satisfying, no? ;)

Bwahahaha! Or the occasional wondering neighborhood pet that tries "relieving" itself on the tire :Q

Happened to me too. Tires and rims but at least I got some neat cinderblocks.

Not as bad as having your windows broken, seats slashed and other damage done at the same time.

Insurance fixes it but never the same.

At least the car got left on bricks insted of on the ground. On my all my older cars, I go with the macho black steel wheel look. Rims add worry, hubcaps add weight. Why bother? :)

Really sucks when your car gets violated, bro.
