Car trouble

First of all, I live in Arkansas and snow is pretty rare. Today we've gotten ALOT of snow (for us), 4inches+ i think. I was going to a friends house to hang out. Get in my Jeep (not 4wd) Grand Cherokee and start heading down my alley, slipped once so i was like screw this im going home.

I can't back up my alley since it is very steep. So i go down slowly turn onto this steep downhill and head down to turn around. Start skidding down and theres a patch of ice at the bottom my car hits it, slides off the road but i get it back on. I have led zeppelin playing so i really didn't hear that much. So i drive a little while and my 2 friends on this street come out and are like stop stop. I'm l ike what? they say my car is making alot of noise so we look around and my muffler pipe is next to my back tire and they are scraping together.

So,

1. Is this fixable?
2. How do you fix it?
3. How much $$$
4. Whole new muffler?
5. Am i screwed?

LMK if you need any more details

this really sucks, first wreck of any kind i've gotten into.

Your muffler pipe is just bent? Shouldn't be expensive at all, especially if you can just bend it back ;)

I'm not sure the extent of the damage. It's VERY dark outside and I was too freaked out to do much. Didn't really react well.

Disclaimer: Obviously we are just guessing, since we haven't seen it.

Most likely... It's the hanger that's bent and not the pipe. If my guess is correct, then you can probably bend it back. If it is the actual pipe that's bent, then you'll probably have to get a muffler shop to bend it... My guess is less than $50, if it is that simple.

Muffler shop eh? Like Midas?

Hopefully its that cheap, i don't think anything THAT serious is wrong with it.

But just in case, how much is a new muffler?

You live in Arkansas? Just get a piece of baling wire (or an old coat hanger) and make your own muffler hanger!

(Sorry, couldn't resist...:D)

Hey, screw you! I'm from Ohio, and wouldn't think twice about doing that! Totally viable repair, IMO! :p

There may be more wrong with the system if all it took was a bumpy ride to shake it loose. Stay the hell away from Midas. Look in the yellow pages for repair shops, and get a quote for a whole new system from the cat. converters back. Just take it to the place with the lowest quote. They may be a ble to fix it with just a couple cheap parts. While they have it on the lift, you could peek at it and decide if you want to fix it yourself.

To be honest I think i might've hit the curb or a rock or something. I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been.

No, Midas and most of the major chains just install they won't repair. Find an independent muffler shop. As you get closer to the ghetto the more likely it will be that you'll be able to find someone willing to do repairs rather than replacements.

Check it out yourself and see whats wrong with it before you take it in somewhere. Otherwise they'll screw you over. Chances are you can just bend it back into place, or replace a broken exhaust hanger.

This is why stupid people should not be allowed to drive at night or in bad weather. What exactly were you paying attention to while you were slipping on ice and sliding off the road?
