Hey - we have a '89 Plymouth Grand Voyager..we're leaving to go out for dinner (starts at 7), and our van was making a weird sound..we shut it off, now it won't crank back over.

The sound is probably best described as a 120mm Delta fan with dirt/grime in the motor - kind of a grinding whir. Ignition is off, and the sound is quite loud. Any ideas?

edit: It just stopped - it was coming from the front area of the engine....it started now.

Sounds like starter motor did not disengage, probably was too hot to restart. After it cools off should work okay. Sometimes it just happens, other times starter or starter solenoid is going bad.

Thanks for the ideas, all - it started up fine, after the sound stopped. It sounded like a fan (with a bunch of sand inside, or something..), but the fan wasn't moving. We just came back, and it started/shut off just fine...strange.

Thanks again 🙂
