Car Subwoofer Setup: What's it worth?

I paid $200 for the following:
2- 10" JL W6s
275W Sony Amp (can't remember the model, but I think it was something like HX1000)
and a ported box

Do you think I got a good deal? How much do you think it's worth? My father thinks I could've gotten a better setup for the price, but I wasn't sure.

I´d say nothing.

And no offense but I and everyone I know thinks that the people with mega hi-fi systems in their cars are just plainly big loosers. 99% of them also have a terrible taste in music.

Nice system for the computer though ;)

It's not mega hi-fi, it's just that I spend a lot of time in my car and I happen to love music. And the 4 speakers I have don't have a full enough sound to them - so I'd like to fill out the sound of it. So subs it is for me :)

When I got a subwoofer for my computer it made the world a difference, love it, it did alot to my enjoyment of using a computer and I hope this subwoofer does the same for you and your car :)

true, thats the best about the free world :)

seems that those people mostly just play music that has the most base, mostly eurotechno, they should be playing Radiohead KidA :p

Czar what small town do you live in that adding a $200 subwoofer setup to your car makes it mega hi-fi? Maybe if he said $2000 then it could be argued his money would be better spent elsewhere. Regardless, $200 is probably about the best you could do and seems reasonable if you got the two subs, the amp, and the box all together. I think having a good sound system anywhere is a great thing, better in the car than the computer.

Those subs are worth about 150...w6's are nice subs. I thought the w6's only came in dual 6 ohm? If they do you might wanna be careful driving them with that amp...depending how u have them wired. Not too fond of Sony and I don't really follow their line, but I think u got a decent deal. Might wanna look into those subs though.

You got a great deal. A pair of 10W6 alone will cost you at least $200 new. You might want a stronger amp though, those subs can handle a lot more power (275W to one would be good but not to power both).

If this is a brand new setup I would guess that they are 10w0 not 10w6.

If you got the JL's 10W6's in good condition, you got a great deal. I agree about the amp.. you may want to check out how stable it will run either @ 3 ohm, or whatever you plan on doing, bridged, mono, etc. The setup will also depend on what kind of car it will be going in and all the details regarding that as well..

sounds like most people responding to the original question are bashing car audio enthusiasts. I don't really think that's fair to do considering that I'm sure there are plenty of people that would bash the "computer nerds" and their setups as well.. the original poster asks an open question and the responses he gets sounds more discouraging than anything remote of answering his question...

I'm positive they're W6's, I'm already getting a different amp for them, because I know that they can handle a lot more

genocide if all that was new i think you got a pretty good deal. the subs are worth at least 150 in the shops, a box about 40, the amp not sure. i'd be very happy if i got a deal like that. jl's kick ass. those subs should be about 300w rms. you can push at least 450 to them no problem at 3ohms.

im patiently waiting for an infinity perfect12 myself.

Czar, your first post was pretty lame. you should be shot, dork. "those people.." hate to get personal, but dude you deserve it- you live in fawkin iceland haha. so i guess its only natural ":p"

Nice deal, but was it all new/in box? Either way, still a good deal. I got ripped on my first amp purchase but it didn't discourage me in the least! Also, what kind of vehicle are you puttin that in? Will you be doing the install yourself? May not be the super best place to get your gear, but here might be a good place to go to get some info on installs. And also hookin the amp up is a vital part, to bridge or not to bridge? And remember, if they can hear you comin they'll hear you goin :)

The whole setup is used, but there's no problems with it whatsoever. I since got a new amp, a Rockford 250a (I think that's the model, it pushes 200x2W)

spoooon: why do you regret it? I love my 15W6. This thing pounds. The only thing that I think is that maybe I should've gotten 2 15W6's. I think my Orion 225 HCCA can handle both too..

Czar you better watch it! I crank out some awesome tunes when I am cruisin! I understand what you mean though... just going into the local Safeway and a guy in his Civic is parked by the front doors waiting for his GF or something and he has "Who Let the Dogs Out" cranked! His system wasn't any good either because you could hear so much distorion :) I chuckled to myself as I walked by.

as for the original poster...

If you got W6's then that is an awesome deal... I believe those subs sound awesome in sealed enclosures though. I am not sure how that amp will be... I think going with a RF is an alright choice.

Since you guys seem to know alot about car audio, where is a good place to pick up some adequate knowledge about it.
