CAR STUFF: How often do you guys check the oil?

I seldom do and boy was I surprised when I checked it after putting 2,500miles on current oil. . The oil level was so low it gulped down two whole liters of oil. I swear I put four liters in when I changed it last so that means its using about a liter every 1,250miles :Q I'm lucky my engine didn't blow running on half the oil capacity.

hm.. it depends on your car... I have an old toyota and it drinks oil pretty quick so I check it close to every week and a half. Otherwise for new cars, every 3k miles ..

everytime I put gas in it.

Definitwly WAY TOO long, even for a new car.

New cars rarely burn that much oil.

A good rule of thumb on older cars is once a week. 30 sec of time can save lots of $$$

Whenever I think of it. I've got a 92 Buick Century with a 3.3liter engine, it's got 106k miles on the clock, and amazingly it only drinks about about 1/2 quart every 3500 miles.

never check it, take it in every 3000 miles... i dont care if its just a ploy to get me in more often, it can never hurt your car to change oil too much

sh*tkabobs I never knew oil could get drunk so readily by an engine. I just assumed to get it done when you take it in but I've now decided to have it checked more often. It's one of the few things I can do.

I check mine about once a month, but I've never needed to. 204,000 miles and 13 years on the original engine internals (pistons, rings, etc.) and it doesn't burn any discernable amount of oil between changes (3,000 miles). 🙂

I check mine pretty much weekly. If i don't watch my speed on the highway and take it easy on the back roads, it'll burn a quart in 40 miles.

BTW, thanks for the reminder
