Car stereo systems

I'm thinking about getting a new cd-player and speakers in my car, as well as XM radio. I know I can get all of this at alot of retail stores, but is there any consensus shop, or online dealer that I can get this stuff the cheapest? I don't want to get em at Best Buy because I figure I can buy them cheaper elsewhere. Also, whats the best brand to get? I'm like totally clueless.. 🙁 I know someone here would know. Also, I don't want to spend much more than $500.

Crutchfield.com

As far as brands go, everyone has an opinion. I liked Pioneer headunits with Infinity Reference speakers (a little less than $150 total off eBay and it sounded fine for me)

i had a thread on here about it a few weeks ago. I ended up with www.sounddomain.com because of their pricematch policy. Getting a matched price was a different matter though. Still cheaper than Crutchfield. At the latter, you get superior customer service - but you definitely pay extra for it.

My recommendation is to go to http://www.pricegrabber.com and input which stereo you want. There are the best prices from the best online retailers. FYI, I got the Pioneer 7600MP which has mp3 and XM radio support. BTW, I also bought speaker enclosures at www.thezeb.com - they were cheap and nice... pricegrabber shows them all the time... very reputable.

Crutchfield is nice for looking up information and all, but its insanely expensive (its pure retail price.) I bought most of my stuff from sounddomain.com

Just do what you do for computer parts. Look around for cheaper prices, check reviews, and buy according to your needs. 🙂

I have a pioneer deck I'm trying to sell. Info here

It's value is at 400 bucks, but I'm trying to sell it for 150-200, PM me if you are interested, it does mp3s and XM.

Crutchfield is expensive, but you get the mounting kit and master sheets for your car (i think). I've bought things from etronics.com before. Their shipping cost are insane high, but usually the total cost is pretty good, esp. compared to crutchfield.

the sounddomain forums are the only forums i go to for caraudio. people there are very knowledgeable and are willing to help out. its good stuff.
