Car Stereo Question

I'm getting rid of my Pioneer Premier DEHP-6200 CD head unit to upgrade to an mp3 cdr head unit. I've narrowed it down to the following two models:

Clarion Pro Audio DXZ815MP

JVC digifine2.1 KD-SH99

Which of these two should I get or should I wait for a newer model? I'm planning on spending less than $300.

I want it to have 3 preamp outputs (or at least separate subwoofer outputs) and a built-in crossover so that I can control my subs from the head unit. The JVC supports this - I do not know if the Clarion does or not. I also want it to have the shortest delay to play mp3s and the best navigation system.

I'm going to use it with my factory-installed soundsystem and two 12" subs and an amp that I added.

Also, where is a good place to order car audio stuff for cheap online? I'm going to install it myself and do not need the instructions and extra stuff Crutchfield adds.

would be your best contestant. my sis had 1 and it was a cheap 1 and it still never skipped and she never had any trouble w/it she had it for 3 years then we sold her car!

i have the P7300 and it rocks.
For MP3 playback, i attach my laptop to it, and voila ~ endless stream of MP3's!

I was thinking about getting a mp3 player for my car as well..but I narrow it down to JVC and Sony Xplode
have you considered the Sony model? if so.. what made you choose JVC over Sony? their price is about the same

ACK! sony is sh|t IMHO. clarion has some good products, and im not too experienced with JVC.

okay i just did a comparison on the crutchfield.com.. i think you should go for the JVC one.. because it has CD text and if you are playing Mp3 songs CD text comes in handy.. Clarion Pro don't have it. I also see why you didn't choose sony (if it was one of your choices) it doesn't have the preamp output for sub

Make sure it reads ID3 tags or you'll hate yourself after the fact.. also a unit that can fastforward through the tracks is necessary too.. BTW the Kenwood does both of these I believe the Sony doesn't read ID3's and I'm not so sure about the others but I'm waiting for Alpine to get one..

JVC car audio is not great in my (admitedly past) experience. I'd go with the Clarion based on reputation. They make a good number of factory systems for many different car makers. I also like Kenwood and Alpine. I've heard Panasonic is quite decent. Sony is not what it used to be (don't even touch anything less than ES-series). Finally, Pioneer is over rated and hard to use while driving with all their fscking tiny buttons. There I said it. I don't like Pioneer! Oh well, you must have liked it though, so nothing personal.

CD-Text and ID3 tag info are totally different, AnimeKnight. Regular audio CDs can be encoded with CD-Text info, and some regular CD players can read it.

ID3 tags are used only in the MP3 format. Only certain MP3 CD players will be able to read the ID3 tag from the files you burn onto a CD.

JVC car-stereos are quality heads. I'm running three of them, though about two years old now, one in my truck, car and bike. Never had a problem with 'em, so i keep buying 'em.
