I just bought a pair of 8's and am trying to figure out a good place to install them in my car. Right now, I have components in the doors and a 15' in the trunk. I got the 8's because I want true midbass, not the crap coming out of my midranges. Do you think I could just get a box and put them in the trunk? I'm not sure how loud they'll sound. I can't put them in the doors and can't really afford to get kickpanels built for them. My tentative plan is kind of like this:

15|Amps|8s|backseat

The 15 would be in the back facing out, my amp rack in the middle, and the box with the 8's facing the rear seat. The trunk is ported kind of. I took the 6X9s out a long time ago and just covered the holes with carpet. What do you think?

The 8's will be getting 100 watts each. The 15 gets 500. The midranges get 135 watts and the tweeters get 65 watts.

Ummm... 6.5" mid should be sufficiant for mid-bass, say 75hz and up or so. Your combo seems kind of overboard. Get some crossovers and play around, see what sounds good to you, after all that's all that matters.

I'm going to get a small box for both of them. I have just enough room between the amp rack and the rear seat for it. I can't put them anywhere else really without building kickpanels. The midranges aren't quite up to it for midbass. Also, the doors start to rattle when they hit the lower frequencies. Very irritating. :) I want it to sound more punchy. It's really boomy right now and that gets old.

The doors are dynamatted, the door panel has been deadened with both spray and roll on stuff. It's just kind of a crappy car. '96 Olds. All those snap on body panels and stuff. The 15' is in a sealed box. It's not super boomy, but it's not tight enough to my liking. The midranges just can't cope because I can't set the frequencies low enough with out the door rattling. So basically I have low bass, midrange and highs, but no midbass. Rap sounds great in the car. But rock doesn't sound as good as I'd like.
