Car stereo amps....

I have 2 Cerwin Vega 12inch DVC HED subs that need 200watt rms @ 2ohms. So I am looking at what amps to get that will push around this or more. So far I have my eye set on the Pioneer X962 that will push around 190watts @ 2ohms, but I ran across this amp and it seems really good. The problem is I've never heard of Crunch before and was wondering how their product of this amp is?? And any other suggestions for what amp to use would be great. I am hoping to spend as little as posible while still pushing around the rms or more @ 2ohms... I am thinking a definitely cap at 200 bucks

Well this isn't the exact amp that i was looking for... I was trying to find the model that is like a year or two old and is 1000w (brand new for about the same price) but I couldn't... Any way, I personally have never had any problems from audiobahn and for the price and quality they are really tough to beat.

Sort of OT, but a friend of mine has two 15" IDQ's and the 1000w audiobahn amp and I must say that it is quite loud.

oh... just noticed that 200 price cap... well there are a few smaller audiobahn amps out there... but 50 bucks more why not? then you would have plenty of power if you ever decided to get different subs, and it looks schweet 🙂

Crunch amps are like the food at the store that comes in a white package and says "Cereal" "Napkins" "Beer" "Vegetables" "Candy" etc....

If you can't figure out what I mean, Crunch amps are no good, and never have been - I think they might even be sold at Walmart or something, if that says anything.

Cruch = Crap

In that price range, you might wanna see if you can pick up something by Rockford Fosgate perhaps...

Even their relatively "entry level" amps can usually handle 2 ohms allright...so don't look straight at their power ratings since @ 2ohms the power is much greater than the spec given which is usually @ 4 ohms.

i would recommend phoenix gold amps, but i have a rockford fosgate that ive been fairly happy with as well.

you should be able to pick up a lower model by either of these companies for around the same price, but i think itd be worth it to push your price cap into the $250 range.

hmm, I doubt it's as bad as the first amp I ever owned about 7 years ago. It was small and black and I bought it at canadian tire (it's just a big hardware/car store in canada) for about $45 US new. I think it had 2 X 40 watt amplification.

Please, do yourself a favor and don't get a Crunch amp. Just because say it delivers 250watts of power doesn't mean it is delivering 250watts of clean & distortion free power. If anything, all your sub will be doing is amplify that annoying noise. Get a respected brand with less power rating (even rated at less power, it probably will outperform a Crunch amp anyday). You get what you pay for basically. Oh yeah, you do realize that your CV subs are dual voice coil right? There are 2 pairs of inputs to each of the speakers. If you need to run it at 2ohm, I wouldn't trust a cheap amp to do that for you.

I will be setting the coils up in a parallel formation which requires 2 ohms to each sub. So I need something that can do 2 channels of ~200 watts at 2 ohms.

How does the Pioneer X962 fit with this? The price of 140 is very attractive.

I wouldn't go with Pioneer either. I would go with a crossfire amp. Definetely the best bang for the buck. A real good place to go to get even more knowledgeable feedback is elitecaraudio.com They have a real real good message board there.
