Car stereo Amp question

I'm getting an amp installed, and I didn't know if the power cable I have will get the job done. I bought a wiring kit and used some stuff from it, so I can't return it. The power cable is 8 gauge, and I'm hearing that 4 gauge should be used. It's a 4 channel amp that will be powering 4 speakers, about 50 watts a piece. Will 8 gauge cut it or not?

I love it. :) The great confusion: Should an audio signal that requires 4awg wire be considered a signal or power? :)

It's the cable going from the battery to the amp, so I'd generalize it as electricity :)

The cable going from the amp to the speakers is also carrying electricity :)

True, but...but.... ahh screw it! :)

Anyone have any idea as to what gauge wire I should use?

I have used 8, but 4 would be better. Actually who are we kidding 8 is fine unless you have the need for ego measuring with your power wire. If your mounting a long way from the battery and you are planning on adding more amps or other goodies than use a bigger wire. I actually used "00" at one point just because;)

And make sure to run the power wire away from all other stereo wires especially any RCA's since tracking down a irritating whine is impossible at 75 MPH going down the freeway and thats when it is the most irritating to listen too.

8ga should be plenty
My NAD C340 runs at 400w peak total, and I'm using 12ga speaker wire.

8 gauge - unless you are going to compete and then go for the 4. Check your rule book for your length of run.

(this coming from a car audio industry guy)
