Ok so we had a light break in to our vehicle. Wife left the doors unlocked however, the person which decided to get in our car only took our daughter's small toy and kids seat cushion mirror. HOWEVER, lesson learned from now on.

Whats the best car security / remote start can I get from newegg.com?

I wouldn't really call a theft from an unlocked vehicle a "break in" - I'd start with locking your doors. :p

Typical cop, blame the victim instead of doing your job.

Don't think this is good attitude to take with law enforcement that do put their lives on the line every day which is their job...

I hate when people recommend the obvious. She knows she did the wrong thing and she learned her lesson. But since I pay for the SUV I am taking the extra step, can someone please get on topic instead of flaming my wife? Appreciate it!

...not sure if serious...

You need to learn what a smiley is. And also a flame, apparently, because that wasn't one.

I believe black2na knows a lot more about alarms than I do - maybe he'll chime in shortly.

Its been a few years since I was in this game but I liked the viper alarms with the pager In the fob your budget depends on the model you want. More money is more features but when you get one make sure its not just an audible alarm. You want something with ignition cutoff when the alarm is armed. And the biggest part pay for a great install don't go to best buy go to a small independent shop ask to see there work most have folders cause there proud of it. A great alarm install takes 8-12 hours but you would never know it was there which is really what you want if someone is trying.to steal your car.

Now im sure you guys have learned your lesson that's a good thing but another part of not having it happen is to leave nothing visible in the car. Atleast of any value cause even with an alarm if they want something they will get it. Hope that helps might be better to go and ask a local audio/alarm shop help the guy who is busting his hump to make it and do something he loves.

Now on to jumpem: that has to be the most retarded closed minded statement I've heard. most people like you who make stupid comments like that are normaly annoyed and hate the cops. Moreover so during a traffic stop because you think your not doing anything wrong but you were. But! If something was to happen to you say stolen items. you call them up and want them to fix it like there magic! guess what there normal people like you and I *shock!* so get off your Damn high horse and start being nice to our men and women in blue there jobs are tough enough without people like you.

*internet tough guy rant over*

i got arrested at age 14 for "breaking in" to a truck that had the windows down...

unless you know how to install auto electronics, id find a good shop to do it for you. there is a bunch of stuff you may not have considered about your car that may cause you issues.

I am serious. The police around here act the same way. They blame the victims for being burglarized, and talk about locking up everything. They never talk about actually aprehending anyone or proactively stopping crime.

And if you call 911 in the middle of the night when you hear someone by your house, they'll tell you to clear your house yourself and call back if you find someone.

Good info! What do you look for in alarms? Any brands to stay away from?

Encouraging people to lock their doors is a proactive means of reducing crime. Locking doors certainly won't prevent all theft, but it helps. Alarms are good too, but only if they're armed. ;)

What's your overall budget (including installation)? An improperly wired alarm can cause more problems than it'll solve, so like black2na said - don't skimp on the install.
