The guy mentioned it had a frw problems, and before i hand over my hard earned cash, i want to know about how much this was going to maybe cost me after the initial purchase....

new clutch

new knock sensor




the car runs fine and shifts mediocre, but i'm worried it wouldn't pass smog(with the dash light comming on due to the knock sensor), though i'm fairly sure it's the sellers responsibility to smog the car

any input

getting the clutch put in will probably run you $4-500+ not sure about the knock sensor

True. Regarding the knock sensor, we had to get ours replaced under warranty and it was worth several horus of labor on behalf of the mechanic as quite a bit of the engine had to be taken apart to get to it.

Like Mermaidman said, take the vehicle for a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) to good local shop that specialist in Toyota. It'll cost you between $75 to $200. It'll give an idea what shape the car is in.

I think he did already, he told me up front that he knew those things were wrong with the car, other than that it's running clean

Lithium, you are the one that needs to take the car in for a pre-purchase inspection with your mechanic. Don't take the word of the seller regarding these issues. For all you know, he might be witholding some of the issues off of the list and as soon as you sign the "As-Is" bill of sale, your headaches will just be starting.

A turbo Supra is not the beacon of reliability. I would not buy one unless I it was a weekend toy. Is this a weekend car or is it a daily driver?

somewhere in the middle, definatly not a daily driver, though i suspect i'll take it out a few times a week. I'm just needing to know about how much those two repairs would cost, giving total trust tot the seller. I had a friend come with me for a test drive, he said it runs nicely, and on the surface seems great, though a more thoroguh inspection is in order.

Your best bet is probably to call around local shops..

I was quoted $550 just in labor for a clutch installation on my car ('98 Corolla)..I ended up paying $340 plus tax elsewhere. The Supra is RWD, so it might be a bit cheaper..but it's a Supra, so it might be more expensive. I have no idea. 😛
