car question

i was checking some fuses in the relay fuse box on my 98 malibu today, and to get to a fan fuse, i had to remove the relay fuse labled hvac. of course, i dropped the fvcker and it falls into a spot that it fits into perfectly, that i cant reach, and is compeltely surrounded so using a coat hanger to try to push it around to fall to the ground doesnt work. the prongs fell face down, so no magnet action either. fcking bullsh!t....

my question is, if anyone would know, is will it mess anything up if i drive it without this fuse?

from what i gather, hvac has to do with the air conditioner, and that hasnt worked in a while anyway, so i dont care if screws the a/c up, just the engine.

man, what a sh!tty week this has been....

Most new cars come with spare fuses snapped into the cover for the fuse panel....
Replace the fuse?

IF the fuse is HVAC only, it won't hurt to drive without it. But, if the fuse has other functions - like running engine cooling fans for example - then you could have problems. But, this is very unlikely.

You should be fine without it - but I'd replace it asap, just to be sure.

yeah, there are seperate fuses labled for fans. its the fuse box under the hood, not the dash. its a big fuse, 1.5" block. grey so i cant see through it so see if its blown or what. theres no spare fuses for it like the smaller 2 pronged colored ones. ill replace it, just cautious as to whether it would effect the cooling like you suggested.

with other fuses controlling that, im fairly confident it would be ok.

That's not a fuse. That's a relay. Very different. A relay uses a low-voltage trigger to turn on a high-voltage current. (I.e. you apply a low-voltage current to the relay, which causes the relay to close the circuit for a high-voltage device. This way the switches in the interior of the car only have to carry small amounts of current.)

It's probably the relay for the HVAC blower motor, which means you won't have a blower for the heater either with it gone. It's probably $20-$50+ for a new one, depending on what all goes into that particular relay.
