I want to hear some opinons =)

'99 Si vs '97 Prelude
Both red

Si is 15k, has 27k miles

Prelude is 13.5, has 67k miles

Si is from private seller

Prelude is from dealer

Quality of cars being equal, which one would you get and why?

Sorry, we stopped giving out answers after car question 23984739875943985798437592

When ya buy new you get an import, and when you buy used you get a domestic.
Nothing beats a domestic for used car prices. Go look at emunds.com.

Ok LISTEN TO ME.
Why imports suck
"you can spend 3000 on a Camaro z28 and run a 10-11 second quarter mile, or you can invest 10,000 into a Honda and maybe run 12 second quarter miles""Get a paint job on it for 2-3k and have it look really nice"

Just fyi

i work as a valet

i drive imports/domestics all day long

and i think domestics suck ass, so don't try to have me buy a domestic 😉

And i don't care about going fast quarter mile/stoplight to stoplight, the only racing i might do is autox

if you do the 12k miles/year system

the si should have ~48k miles
the lude should have ~72k miles

Dealer you get warranty (however short that is) and perhaps some type of pre-sale inspection. Also, you get an oppotunity to check the VIN to make sure its clean. You can't assume both cars are equal in quality, the whole pricing structure of used cars is based on imperfect information.

That said, IF they were equal, the Prelude is a better car, both in terms of performance and modification.

is the 97 prelude the 5th gen body style or 4th gen? if its 5th gen, get the lude, if its 4th gen, get the SI

and mrfrog - most people dont care about 1/4 times, what they DO care about is reliability. why do u think that camaro is 3k?

Get the SI, I love mine. 😀

More details on the cars would help the decison though.
Have either of the cars had modifications on them before? For the Si what type of driver was the previous owner?
re: Warranty. The Si should still have some of the 3 year / 36000 mile warranty left.

cars are BONE stock

i refuse to get a car that has been previously modded

97 is a 5th gen prelude

condition don't know yet don't care yet, before i take posession i will get it fully checked by a mechanic, incl. comprssion check

i'm not the biggest honda fan (though i love imports) just for the reason that they are everywhere.

the lude's interior is FAR FAR FAR and away superior in layout and material quality to that of the si. my bro has a 98 lude, and a friend of mine has an si. i drive both somewhat frequently, and i prefer driving the lude when i'm busting through the twisties around here. it feels nicer, but is slightly less agile in the initial turn in (probably cause of the weight).

both got nice reving engines, and are silky smooth. don't let the fact that the lude is discontinued daunt your decision. the '99 si isn't in production either, as they changed to a new body. just cause the model is still out doens't mean crap about parts. both cars respond well to simple modifications.

bottom line, if you are just looking for a fly ride thats fun and quick, get the lude. if you are looking to build something to auto-x a lot, get the si, as it has more potential in auto-x than the lude. the lude is still most definately a capable auto-x car, but its too heavy. the si will most likely last a while longer (40k miles is quite a bit) but this also depends on how well the engines were broken in.

Thats good, because I know a lot of people who modded the hell out of their cars and put them back to stock to sell them.
Are you going to MOD the car? That may determine which car you want to get.

Is the prelude a manual or auto? If it was auto I would skip it.
Prelude has a much nicer motor but is a bit heavier.
I like the Si becuase it was pretty cheap, light, decent performence, decent gas milage (30mpg on a good day)
However the Si requires premium fuel which kinda sucks, i'm not sure about the Prelude...

This is really the 23984739875624985798437593 problem.

For this, you are penalized, and you get only half the answer....

So, definitely buy the

Go for the Prelude! Especially if you want to do auto-x, the PRELUDE owns. It is one of the best handling FWD car in the market, looks damn good, is fast, has an awsome seats as well has great resale. Even if you do sell it for any reason a few years down the road, you'll get a lot of money for it..

PRELUDE!

You're talking about what Si, a Civic? (Probably.)

If you're paying cash, the Prelude, because they're exquisite sports cars that last a long time.

If you're financing, the Civic, because of the lower miles. You will be more likely to have it paid off by the time you need to start replacing/repairing parts to keep her running and driving like new.

I'd prefer a Prelude.

Both are priced a little high, IMO, but I haven't looked up bluebook prices, I'm just going by "feeling".

I hate to turn this thread into a domestics VS Imports war again, but show me one z28 you can by for 3K that does a 10-11 second quarter mile.

BTW, get the prelude, it's a better car, and hella-fun to drive also!

Me too, but let me ask, how goddamn often do you only drive a quarter mile? Most people don't really give a fcuk how fast a car can go in a quarter mile. They care about other things, like just enjoying a well built machine.
