Car problem

I don't know much about cars, so I was hoping someone could help me. I have a 1993 Saturn SL2 sedan which has been having a weird problem. Over the past few weeks, sporatically, it will slow to a stop while driving. It's a manual transmission. Like, if I let it coast in first gear, it slows to a stop very quickly, rather than just coasting for awhile. Same thing in the other gears, if I take my foot off the gas it decreases speed really fast. The rear passenger side tire area was warm and smell funny when I got home. No idea what's going on...any ideas?

Does it pull to one side? Does sound like a seized caliper (or shoe, depending rear brake type.)

Nope. It feels like it's downshifting or putting on the brake without me doing it.

Seized brake......should be an easy fix and relatively inexpensive. Do both sides though, save a headache down the road.

Out of curiosity....do you notice poorer gas mileage and slower acceleration?

Gas mileage, haven't paid attention, but yeah, slower acceleration. It feels like it's dragging something. Sometimes, after driving for a bit, it kind of pops out of the dragging thing and goes back to normal.
