Very white trash, but an option I guess.
Post a dumbass question and get dumbass answers. If you don't like the response you get, stop posting stupid questions.
It's how a locksmith makes a new key, there's nothing dumb about it.

You actually think a lock smith breaks out a file and cuts a key with a file? Damn... you are dumb.
I've seen it done that way, enlighten me if you're wiser.

you should be banned from life then. Why don't you just call....... HONDA?
Listen fvcknozzle I asked a very specific question, if you don't have the answer then zip it. I'm only interested in finding out if it's possible and if it works.

And I gave a very specific answer. Fvcktard. Why don't you call Honda? Maybe not so your "friends" car? huh?
Your answer was "yeah right." There's nothing specific about it. Yes, it's a friends car, which I am currently imagining on your head.

it just sounds fishy. Dealer would be the only option for me.
Yes, I come to ATOT to find out how to steal 10 year old hondas from such brilliant minds as yours. You've found me out!

Honda dealer will give you a key from the VIN. In fact, I have some nice, shiny, new GMC keys for the Vandura (Broke one set off). I usually make my own copies, but wanted to see just how far back they keep the keying records.

And if you're into making your own copies, the proper hardware doesn't cost too terribly much. It's basically a spring loaded bar with a dremel on one end. But you need the original.

Maybe in the 19th century... ever seen one of these?

*EDIT* By the way... you have quite a harsh attitude for being the person asking for help here. Might wanna think about that before you post your next topic.

Um, but how would you use that to make an ignition key without the original key?

A locksmith would call the dealership and get the code for the key... the machine cuts it... just like at the dealership.

Out of curiosity what if you dont have a locked glove box?

Interesting, I'll have to see if the glovebox has a lock. Maybe I can just pull it out and bring it to their shop? Seems like that would be cheaper.

My attitude only exists for those of you who got one first. For those being truly helpful, I thank. Calling me dumb for asking about a process that I've witnessed first hand is, well, dumb. See the irony?

I think that going to Honda will work. My cousin forgot his radio code on his stock deck and we needed it to transfer the deck to another car. He called up Honda and they gave him the code.

i dare you to call any lock smith in the yellow pages and ask him/ her if they use a file to cut you a key

go on, what are you waiting for?

it sucks that your friend lost the car keys among other things, but 10 year old car keys are pretty much like your house keys, w/out the original to make a dup out of, it'll be very hard to make, file in hand or not.

as for taking out the ignition/ glovebox key hole to make a key, i thought it was the other way around, you have a set key, then you match the pin settings in the key hole to match the grooves of the key. but that's just how house doors and deadbolts work, so you can have one key, even if you bought different batches of door locks at different times by the same manufac.

ive seen the file method done b4..

i dunno about honda but alot of cars have different keys for the glove box and ignition

I've had it done on my 92 accord.

My thanks to all and in particular thisismatt. While the glovebox didn't work I was able to pop out the trunk lock and have it keyed for a whopping $8. 😀

Yay.

cool 🙂

I had to have mine done at 6 flags...only cost me $90 and that was after AAA cut 50% off

Some cars have the keycode in the interior somewhere - such as the glovebox or under the ashtray. I couldn't find mine, though.

I experienced the same situation two days ago for my Nissan. Went to the dealer with my title, they made me a key. Free.

-- I thought it was the full-moon syndrom, but realized there is no full moon tonight.

Then again, if one is a thief and can't get into a car, get it started and be on their way in less than 3 minutes -- they are in the wrong business.

for my garage door that's exactly what one did....took him all of 10mins.

Automobile locks are simple the basic fact because they aren't really designed to secure a vehicle from anything but obvious tampering. Same with alarms....if someone wants the car bad enough there is no real prevention. There are also things like master key sets available...a lock may be capable of 5 cylinders of 5 different pins, but in reality they make only certain combos and alternate them through the VIN's.

Many times too the wrong key can open the wrong lock if it's only off by 1-2 steps on a cylinder.

I remember when car alarms first came out. I went to open my car at the mall and the car next to it opened, too. 😕
