Ive searched hi and low, online and off, and I cant find a new one or old oil dipstick for my truck ANYWHERE. Anyone know where I can get a dipstick for a 1985 GMC Jimmy?(V6|2.8L). Id be so happy if anyone has any information. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any U-pull-it salvage yards around there? That would be the best place to look. I imagine you could get one from a dealer as well, GM is notorious for using stagnant engines in their vehicles, there is a possibility that a dipstick from a newer vehicle will work. Next time don't be such a dipstick and lose your dipstick (you knew it was coming 😉)

Good luck to ya' 🙂

I'm pretty sure some Citations from that era used the same motor. Try your local junk yards and ebay if you haven't already, but search by engine or by several of the cars the engine came in to broaden your results.

Ya I guess I could call up the dealer, mabye they would have one. And I did check the junk yards and the dipsticks were all gone n the jimmys! The "handle" broke off the dipstick, it was oooolldd.

Look for Cherokees of the same era because they also used 2.8L V6.

So that means they would work, for sure? I also looked in the blazers at the junkyard and the dipsticks were gone there also. 🙁

F-body's (Camaros and Firebirds) also used a 2.8L V6 from 82-89. You might check and see if a dipstick from there would work.
