If you dont own run flat tires, keep your spare tire full of air, maintain your jack, and perhaps keep a can of WD-40 in the car. Possibly even have a reflective triangle in case of night time.

I dont think I've ever checked my tire changing equipment in any car that I've owned in 5 years. Finally had my first flat today and luckily i had a decent spare tire (not one of those donuts, but a real tire), and my jack worked at 75%, however one of the lugs was stripped.

Keep a 12 pack in the trunk just in case your car gets buried in an avalaunch. That way you can pee your way out.

I keep an old moving blanket (one of the UHaul ones :p) in the trunk of my car. Great if you have to change a flat tire or crawl under your car on a wet or muddy road.

Keep a tire pressure guage, duh

Keep spare quart of oil, tranny fluid, coolant (water)

........Profit? :p

Every so often, put some gas in it.

edit: AND - *important* - when you fart in your vehicle, lift your ass off the seat a bit. This will allow your wind some room to propel itself from under you and out of the window, instead of being trapped in your seat, lurking until the next time you sit down and are deluged by the stale smell of your old fart.

A regular jack does not work well for an '83 Bonneville Brougham. My jack got crushed under the weight of the car one of the many times changing tires on that thing. (4 ton cars wear out tires quick!)

If a cop pulls up behind you and turns on his lights, pull over. If he has to come and get you, you can bet he's going to be bringing an ass kicking.

If a vehicle weighing in at over 8 tons has it's right turn signal on, being on his right side isn't a good thing.

Keep the pointy end into the wind.

I want to die like my grandpa. Peacefully in his sleep, unlike the other passengers in his car.

When I lived in Lake Tahoe, I used to keep an old shower curtain in the trunk.

Be kind to your mechanic and he will take great care of your car.

This is the best advice I can give as a mechanic.

Now excuse me as I go slap this @sshat's covette back together so I can get him out of my hair.

My mom does that. (wanna guess the chances that she's going to do anything useful under the car?) I just have a ratty old blanket.

"If you jump over the gate at the subway- The cop will probably let you off with just a warning. But if you jump over the gate while smoking a joint and carrying a loaded handgun, you are probably gonna get your ass kicked!"

I love that skit but not as much as "N***a Please" cereal!

Old shower curtain? With the mold on it?

Here's a tip... For better gas mileage and sharper handling, put 5 more psi in your car than it recommends.

At Wal-mart
Buy a $20 jack
A $10 air pump
And a $5 plug kit
This way if you get a flat because of a nail you can fix it yourself and save alot of money.

The $20 jack is better then any jack that came with your car.
The air pump will pay for itself your first flat.
And I cant tell you how many extra bucks I have made fixing a flat on the highway for someone.

IIRC it was I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa, not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car...

close enough I guess...

buy a car that you can afford to pay for in one cash payment. A ford escort will get you from A to B the same as a Lexus. the money saved in car payments and high insurance can probably be put to better use. Gas will probably be cheaper, too. and you wont have to worry where you park.

That is my car tip.

:)
