If you dont own run flat tires, keep your spare tire full of air, maintain your jack, and perhaps keep a can of WD-40 in the car. Possibly even have a reflective triangle in case of night time.
I dont think I've ever checked my tire changing equipment in any car that I've owned in 5 years. Finally had my first flat today and luckily i had a decent spare tire (not one of those donuts, but a real tire), and my jack worked at 75%, however one of the lugs was stripped.
