One more thing, you have to ask yourself is 20hp worth it? Not just the price of the chip, but the cost in gas....you will have to run premium from then on if you install one, unless you reverse the changes.

Why premium? I usually buy 89 gas.
Then you're wasting your money. If your car is designed to run on 87 octane, and I'm pretty sure it it, then putting 89 in there does nothing but make the oil company more money.

The reason you'd need to run premium is, the chips bump up the timing to a point where anything less will spark knock. And that is a bad thing.

So for 20hp or less gain, you'll have to run premium, and it won't take long before you'll have spent more on the difference in gas price than the damn chip cost in the first place.
The chips are usually designed to work best in conjunction with other mods, like exhaust, intake, fuel delivery, and even internal mods, like camshafts.

You need premium because it increases ignition timing. It will cause the engine to knock if you don't.

edit: too slow

Real chips, like the 300.00 one you mentioned work.

Air box mods are worthless in comparison, but yes, they are cheaper. They just don't make much difference.

Edited becaue I didn't read the entire original post.

I thought the airbox mod on my Z28 was supposed to be worthwhile.

Maybe that says something about how restrictive the stock one is, though.
