Can anyone tell me if I focked up my truck? I was changing the diff fluid today and I took the diff oil bottle and tipped it up into the hole to make sure I had enough room to empty it. I left the cap on becaue I had already cut the tip off and the friggin cap falls into the differential. I tried like mad to get it out, to no avail.I refilled it and drove it around the block to check for leaks. The cap is only an inch or so long and is plastic. Did I screw up the rear end?

You fvcked up. You need to remove the diff cover to remove the cap. While you're in there, you might as well give it a good cleaning before putting it back together and filling again with good fluid, minus the cap this time.

Crapola.What a dumbass I am.

It PROBABLY wouldn't hurt anything, but there's the chance it could knock a C clip off or something like that. I'd bite the bullet and pop it off and get it out. Worst case if you pull it out: You're out the cost of the fluid. Worst case if you don't: Your wheel and your car end up in two different places. Best case if you pull it out: you're out the cost of the fluid. Best case if you don't: you save the cost of the fluid. Worth the risk? I think not.

Ever see a dually pickup on the side of the road, while it's tire is still near the yellow line?

why the hell did you change the differential fluid in the first place? That car is only 2 years old.

Actually the car is only 4 months old and I was told to get the manufact. fluid out and replace it with a synthetic.

Who the hell told you that? You shouldn't need to change your differential fluid for at least 30k miles.

we're all right about not changing the fluid, but my ranting is not going to help this guy. I've never done this, so can he go to a trusted mechanic and get the cap taken out? Is it that difficult to do?

Yep,you got it. I can take the cover off of the differntial, I can do practically anything that needs to be done on my car, so its not that big of a deal. I was just wondering that , in the mean time, untiI can get it off, will it screw up the rear end?

I wouldn't drive it around with a plastic cap in there. You will probably need a new gasket and fluid at the very least though. And a torque wrench to put the diff cover back on.

how was that not understandable? maybe I should change right to correct? Maybe you would understand this:

We all advised him that changing the fluid was not in his best interest, however complaining will not help him. Can he go to a trusted mechanic and get the cap taken out? Is this process that difficult to do?

Are you that stupid?
