Do they really give blue book value or do they do trade-in values?

Thanks

I bought a car from my sister-in-law at CarMax's price (she didn't want the hassle of selling, so it was either CarMax or us). It was below trade-in value by about $500, below KBB by over $1000.

Blue Book Value consists of Retail, Private Seller and Trade In Values, and then it's also divided into Poor, Fair, Good and Excellent Conditions, so therefore there are 12 basic "blue book values", so I'm sure they'll offer you one of those! ;)

I sold a car to them last year and they gave me above trade in value.
the trade in value was about 8400 and they gave me 9500.

it worked out good for me in that case...but YMMV depending on the sahpe of your hooptie

DUH,

The other thread I referenced acted like they gave you PRIVATE PARTY, not TRADE-IN.

That is what I meant. :)
