Right now, my car payment is about $300/month. My car insurance is $270/month, as a result of a couple speeding tickets and an at-fault accident a few years ago.
I had this thought that I could sell my car and just use the metro for a year or two to pay off some debt, and then buy another car when I can afford it.
However, I though I heard somewhere that not owning any insured car for a significant length of time can make it very hard to get insurance. Is this true?
Any other suggestions? I have already done a defensive driving course, it didn't affect my insurance rate at all. "Stop speeding" is an obvious one, I'll try, but I am looking for other things I can do to reduce my expenses.
