This is the situation that a friend is in, and this post is written by him:

Cliff Notes: I'm paying too much for car insurance and need help.

Some background info:
I live in Massachusetts, 23 Male, had license for 5 years, no tickets (knock on wood), one accident in 2004. SDIP points on license- 16. 15 is neutral, so i'm surcharged about 15 bucks a month, so it can't be my driving record.. I drive a 2003 6i with the quasi-lease (I hold the title but can return the car in 4 years, bought the car in NY) Insured with Liberty Mutual for the past year, 4 years continuous coverage on various cars.

My current insurance payments cost as much as my rent, so I know i'm doing something wrong. I don't have any assets other than retirement and some money in savings, so no house, other cars, liquid assets which someone can take from me if they sued.

My Coverages:
Bodily Injury to Other: 20k per person/40k per accident
Personal Injury Protection: 8k per person
Bodily Injury Caused by an Uninsured Auto (compulsory limits 20k/40k): 100k per person/300k per accident.
Damage to Someone Else's Property (compulsory limits 5k): 100k per accident.

Optional Bodily Injury To Others: 100k per person/300 per accident
Collison: 500 deductible (this, i don't want to change)
Comprehensive: 500 deductible (this, i don't want to change)
Substitute Transportation: 30day/900max
Bodily Injury Caused by an Uninsured Auto: 100k per person/300 per accident

Should I change my coverages? Thanks for your help =)

What company? Oh, Liberty Mutual. Don't know anything about them. Just go online to various sites and see what they tell you. Progressive, Geico, State Farm, etc.

It's so simple to get an insurance quote I dont' know why people freak out about it. Just call a couple places, give them the car info and the record info and they can give you a quote in about 3 minutes.... Or do it online.

And haven't used it altely but Progressive always give you quotes from 4 companies all at the same time too. Real easy to see if your current prices are high or not

Well, your coverages look pretty good. I would suggest getting a recommendation for a local broker in your area that has access to many cariers. You could maybe save some money or get more coverage.

I think your uninsured motorist and property damage coverages are too high. I would cut both by half.

car insurance rates have a lot to do with where the car is/where the person lives. so moving might be an option to consider

Why do you think they ask you for your zip code....

Seriously, tell him to stop being lazy and use the telephone. Insurance companies can pop up a form and change any setting and isntantly get the new premiums. Much easier than posting and hoping you get responses that are helpful...
