Car hits crowd near Dutch queen's bus

Two people have been killed and 12 wounded when a car careered into a crowd of people watching the Dutch royal family riding past in an open-top bus, police said. The incident took place Thursday in the town of Apeldoorn during celebrations for Queen's Day, an annual holiday in the Netherlands. Queen Beatrix was in the bus with her family when the black hatchback zoomed past.

Also read from a finnish source that 4 dead and its not believed to be an accident. The royal family wasnt hurt.

It was probably an unstable person tired of being forced to be a peasant for his entire life. Hopefully at least some good would come out of this and the royal family steps down and the government dissolves that barbaric practice.

Why are you concerned about about a backlash on minority groups? AFAIK the driver's name etc has not been released. Do you think he was a 'minority'?

Republican movements are progressive movements trying to abolish antiquated monarchy governments. In some countries they are not active. In others, such as Australia, they are more popular.

Initially, there was a lot of concern that it may have been a minority. There is a LOT of racist far-right sentiment in the Netherlands right now, and this would be something that the far-right and Wilders would have further capitalized on.

However, it seems that reports state that it was not a minority. It is likely that a potentially genocide-like backlash was avoided.

Sorry, but it is inexcusable to not worry about it. Countries like the Netherlands are powder kegs of anti-minority tension waiting to go off. This could have been the beginning of the end. On other forums and blogs, it seems that many Dutch people are relieved at the background of the driver.
