She does not know what to do. I am asking for opinions. However she called her parents. So it is out of my hands now...well she just called back. She is going to call the other party and see what they would like to do.

That sucks... the person probably left the note so people wouldn't think they were driving off without taking responsibility for hitting your girlfriend's car. I hope they crashed and died on their way home.

Maybe not so luckly. If the phone number was legit, I would have a) called the cops to get a report filed b) while waiting for the cops, called the number and confirm the other party would pay for the damage. If they agree, arrange an estimate and get it taken care of. The police report is cover your ass move - if they suddently back out, you have doccumented proof.

She just called back and she said her mom says not to call the police! Ha!

As far as I know a report needs to be filied. Maybe I am wrong but I would want to get the police involved if i plan on getting the other persons insurance company to cover it.

This is awesome!
Girlfriend calls you for help ----> you ask us for help
Can we just take the next step and bang your girlfriend too?

btw, this reminds me of a thread i started a few weeks ago

I have never dealt with a situation like this before. No you cannot bang my girlfriend, I doubt you could do it to her as well as i do.

I was going to post that the number is probably a fake when I was reading the first page, and surprise! It is. This happens a lot. People leave a fake number, and that person will usually just go on home and deal with it later.

by calling the police they can get in trouble for 'leaving the scene of an accident' or 'hit and run'

don't be a douche. call the #, I'm sure they'll tell you to go get an estimate

what do people NOT understand about "don't do the crime and if you can't do the time." seriuosly, personal responsibility, ftw!

ok looking at the times of your posts:

3:59, girlfriend called back. she is going to call the other party
4:00, the phone # doesn't exist.

I call B/S.

There is NO WAY your g/f got OFF the phone with you, called the num, it 'didn't exist', called you back again, told you it didn't exist, then you went and found your post and told us about it.

I'd like to see a girl that is capable of calling and saying one thing, then getting off the phone w/ me within 5 minutes - let alone less than 1.

If the damage is over a certain amount, you have to file a report (at least here in CA). Otherwise the other person can say that you ran into them or some other BS, and if theres no report, you get hosed.

If the OP waited a few minutes after his girlfriend called and said she was going to call the number before he posted about it, then immediately after he posted she called back, it's not too hard to believe.

OP, where did this happen? Some stores have surveillance cameras that cover the parking lot.

The police don't care about your stupid little fender. That's what insurance is for. This wasn't on a public road and no one was injured; therefore they have no responsibility to come hold your hand.

Either get a tag number off the survelliance camera and report it to your insurance company, or chalk it up to "life ain't fair".

That's like the note on a car that says "Hi. I hit your car, and since there are witnesses, I am leaving you this note so they think I am doing the right thing by providing my insurance information, etc. Actually, you are just screwed. HA!"

only if he posted before they got off the phone. There's no way that any female I have EVER met could finish a phone call in less than a minute. No possibly way - and that's best case.
