Okay my old car is an 88 dodge daytona. It came from the factory with 185/70/r14 on it. Somewhere years ago I put on 15" wheels that are 6.5". I wrapped them with 225/50/r15 They fit fine but they're worn out and it seems that hardly anyone makes an all season 225/50/r15 anymore. Would 205/55/r15 be a good substitution? It looks like my speedo should stay pretty accurate. Any thing else to worry about?

If I did my math right, there's about a 0.2% difference in sidewall height between the two, so I wouldn't think there'd be any problem with the speedo or clearance.

yeah thats what I thought. I figured the only problem might be if thats a "good" width tire for a 6.5" wheel or if that missing 20mm width is going to cause bad handling or anything.
I saw those and the price is appealing but the lack of reviews makes me a little nervous since I've never run kumho tires before. I'd like a decent bit of winter performance which at least I'm familiar with on the dunlop tires.
I just submitted an extensive review for them yesterday that they havent put up.
They are not performance in any way. They're extremely smooth and quiet, but the steering response and traction is atrocious. They're merely adequate in the rain, and I wouldn't trust them in the snow.
If you go with the 205/55/15 I can vouch for Kumho ECSTA ASX's...at least they work well in 195/55/15 on a Sentra so there's always a possibility YMMV.
The Kumho Ecsta SPTs are great, I have them on my Boxster.

The kicker though, is that the really good dry/rain tires typically suck in the snow, so I can't say if that would be good or not. Maybe in an absoutely have to drive and be careful situation, but not if you have 30+ days of snow per year.
I have Bridgestone S-03s on the other car, same story, awesome dry/rain, but really bad in the snow.

work decenty well at 205/65/15 on ym camry. Very quiet but not on the perofrmance side, more on the comfort side once ti wears a bit.(New is very good grip but once ti wears, grip falls to just above average levels).
Nosie, wear and ride smoothness is great though. Very soft sidewalls.
The ASX's do look good but I'll probably go with something a little less sticky for longer wear. I'm thinking the BFG Traction T/A's at 60k miles for $81 each.

I trust a tire warranty as far as I can throw it. They're full of loopholes that basically relieve themselves of any liability whatsoever.
Is the warranty that meaningless though that one rated for 60k probably wont outlast one rated for 30k?
You're fine with a 205 on a 6.5" rim, infact 7" would usually be better, depending on the tire of course.
I would run a 205/50/15 for the shorter sidewall heigth (increased steering feel, slightly shorter gear ratio), but 205/55 would be a bit smoother for daily driving.

I'd rather 205/50 also but its not worth my speedo being off or having to futz with the speedo gear heh.
