car getting hot at idle

I am thinking and hoping my issue was a small radiator leak that finally went worse yesterday. I was driving and steam coming out from my hood but not my cap. It is coming from down the radiator somewhere but cant see where exactly.

I missed this thread last month, but given the age of vehicle, and the uncertain history of coolant changes (probably never), I've been thinking clogged radiator all along. Now that you know you need a new one anyway, replace it.

You don't need to spring for the Honda OEM part--a good replacement brand will work fine at ~half the cost. Modine is a brand I've used a couple times without issue. Make sure it's new or "re-cored," and has a warranty. Do not buy a used radiator, no matter how tempting the price.

What if the exact opposite is happening? I've had my car for 3 years (2004 Ford Escape 6.0 Cylinder). No huge issues a couple different minor fixes here and there. (D.I.Y of course, everyone charges WAY too much) I am unsure if these two are related or if one could even affect the other. Anyways my a/c went out a while ago and due to the surface of the sun temps in FL, I tried a quick fix. I threw some A/C Pro in the system. It didn't work but the very next day my car started to overheat. But, it only starts to overheat when the gas is depressed. If i put the car in neutral, idle it or even park the car the temp immediately starts cooling down. I have plenty of coolant in the system so it's not that. I'm unsure what it could be. 😕 PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! :\

I bought a new aftermarket on eBay today for 45, one at auto zone was 108

I don't know about you, but I am too poor to buy cheap.
My brother in law bought cheap radiator from ebay, it did not quite fit the mounting pads. Lasted 9 months. I hope you have better luck.
Remember, you get what you pay for.

Hi I was reading this thread with interest (I have the same problem) and missed the outcome.

Did the new radiator fix it? Or, was it a head gasket or water pump? Please update. 😀

when sitting idle it will get hot however if I rev the engine while idle is will cool down. It also gets back to normal when driving. Thermostat? Water pump?
Hi, I had this problem and went to a few mechanics who changed different things like radiator Etc. Nothing worked. Ended up that the car needed a tune-up. It was misfiring which causes heat to stay in the engine. Problem solved
