I don't understand, why would not having a family make a difference? No children to kidnap?

IE, are we at a greater risk for being robbed, car broken in to, etc. What would a gangs interest be?

because you don't have a family, you don't have to worry about anybody but yourself.

And the cops aren't doing anything? Isn't this the kind of crap going on in Detroit? I would move. It's a matter of time till they decide to set houses on fire.

Where I used to live sometimes some gangbangers would steal a car and burn it in a field nearby. The reason they do it is some sort of gang initiation. The only reason they did it anywhere near our house was because it was in an area that didn't get much traffic.

It isn't the most ideal situation but most of these thefts were in low income areas.

If the cops don't care, that means there is worse crap going on. In my neighborhood, if someone's car radio gets stolen, 3 patrol cars are there and they are dusting for fingerprints.

Get out of there son.

Get a fireproof car?

The store that sells freeze dried water, hand powered chainsaws, and Braille toilet paper should be able to assist you. 😉

Sounds like you've got some gangbangers or wannabe's marking turf. seriously. If you can't move, make sure you have comprehensive insurance on the car and Renter's insurance on your crap. No hard looks on anyone and no fucking any chicas in the complex should keep you safe.
Then move. They say you can't run, but that hiding thing works ok for awhile.

just call your local precinct and get the scoop, they will be more then happy to talk to you

Yup, if you check the information for you local police department there should be a non-emergency number. Questions like this are exactly why that number exists. Give them a call and ask about it.

Having investigated hundreds of burnt vehicles, it is really not that easy to set a car on fire. I've seen many where people would put a lit rag in the fuel filler pipe or poured gas on the outside or drivers seat, only to come back and find the car smoldered a bit, but was still very intact. Obviously, I can't tell you how to really burn a car, but the majority of burnt cars in the last few years were due to people being upside down in their payments. They owed more than the car was worth or they damaged the car beyond the cost of the car. Burning the vehicle and then claiming the car stolen sometimes gets them off the hook except this is insurance fraud and can get you 3 to 5 years depending what state you live in.

What type of job do you have? Burnt Car Investigator? How is the pay?

A battery that can crank out 100s of amps into an unfused wire is a good start. 😉

Who watches Breaking Bad?

Never heard of it. I have not watched TV in over 20 years. I read that TVs cause cancer and make you sweat profusely and can cause you to bleed to death from paper cuts from rigging fans to cool yourself at night. Absolutely horrifying.

What if you drain the oil, coolant, ran the car for about 15 minutes, then toss a molotov cocktail in the engine bay

hm this is a good litmus test....

What would you define as "caring" in a situation like this?

Well when my car got brken into in a ghetto area near usc, the cops didn't even bother to show up. They took a report over the phone and that was it. I asked if they were going to send anybody, and the guy chuckled. I bet he wasn't even writing anything down...

Well in my neighborhood, someone is shooting out car windows at least 3x a month, with only 12 apartments it can come from.

NYPD says no one is getting hurt, so they can't do anything. They'll take note when that entire fucking building burns down one day.
