Their complaint of the Corvette mirrors mine. The interior sucks.

The Corvette finished dead last in this comparo actually.

Out of the lot I'd take the Boxster S. I'd seriously look at a used 911 though at those prices.

And that's the shame because if the Vette even had the interior of the GTO, there would be less discussion about the issue. I know GM can do it as they proved with the CTS.

Exactly, they make cars with better interiors so why don't they do it with their flagship sports car? It makes no sense at all.

C&D also complained about the convertible's chassis being less structurally ridged than the other 3 cars and of some interior rattles and squeaks.

you mean a rental with 15K miles on it has more rattles and squeaks than a fresh from the factory and prepped car?

Dash stroking is all fine and well but not at the expense of the more important things. You'll be left wanting when you find out your right foot, and the person next to you being a cock and not letting you pass, doesn't care about how soft your dash is when those moments come.

Take the Corvette to an upholstery shop and have them hand stitch custom suede covers for all the panels and get a brushed aluminum interior trim set off ebay if it bothers you so much. 😉

The Porsches are pretty much all black plastic on the inside too ya know... I admit I'm a sucker for the whole brushed metal theme but you take that away and all that's left is the same black plastic as any other car.

For me, if I had the money, and were restricted to the cars in the article, I'd buy the Boxster. It's not the best value (the Corvette is the best performance value hands down and it's a damn fine automobile), but it's what I like the best. Purely personal bias, but there you have it.

Still, of Porsche's current lineup, I'd rather have a Cayman since I don't usually care for convertibles.

If I were to spend $50,000 on a 'Vette, I'd buy a 1968 Coupe with the 4-speed manual and either the L-71 or L-89 engine (the L-88, while amazing, would probably be a little excessive, even for me). Far more fun than any of the modern 'Vettes. 😉

Meh, let the guy be a tool. I'll just back off and hope he gets a ticket.

Honestly, I think this looks a hell of a lot better than this.

I think the BMW Z4 interior looks pretty good too.

It's been getting better slowly. My last experience with the Boxster S was in '03 when they first went to the glass rear window and didn't have more than 260 HP out of a 3.2L that had at the time basically no aftermarket or mod potential. And the interior as nice as it was, was mostly plastic with some optional pieces of stick on leather bits and aluminum trim.

Even Ruf and Gemballa parts for the Boxster were aero pieces, wheels, and color coordinated interior parts, nothing at all for engine performance, not even a flash tuner.

The only option really was sticking a 3.6 996 crate motor in it, and then you were talking adding $10k plus several weekends working in uncharted waters on top of a $50k price on the car. It became apparent it just wasn't enough car for the money for me, and that for the performance I wanted, the car was simply priced out of it's league.

It drove like it was on rails though. Mid engine + Porsche suspension = win.

Ex's notes on the Boxster are pretty spot on. Of course, the game is even more interesting now with the Cayman.

I love the Cayman...have driven my boss's 08 several times and it drives wonderfully. I'd still take a Corvette over it for the money. In my opinion the Cayman's interior is not that much nicer than a Corvette. Better seats for sure and a bit better materials...but for the money you'd be paying for a Cayman...you can get the leather package on the Corvette which makes up a lot of ground on "dash stroking" between the two.

GM really needs to put a CTS'esque interior in the Corvette as the next refresh (instead of building a whole new car) and they'd get rid of almost all the Naysayers.

1. Hows the quality compared to a Lexus?
2. Have you raced vs. a Lotus Elise yet?

Quality has been top notch. Fit and finish is good, reliability has been excellent.

I've gone up against a few cars (Corvette Z06-he backed off as we approached 60mph...he was already a couple car lengths behind, Mitsubishi Evo, Solstice GXP-yeah right buddy, you think that thing is fast?). None have beaten me on the bike. Yes, it is faster than a Lotus Elise.

I'm done messing around with cars though. There just is no point and I don't want a ticket for street racing.

I'm sure you are done street racing though, too many stupid risks.

Looks: Audi TT S

Performance: Corvette or Audi TTs

OR

I'd get a used Z3 M Coupe. That owns any of these cars and is much more practical. The end.

seen one, driven one (fine non M version) before I got my E85 Z4 (now retired). Not my cup of tea.

Different stroke for different folks 😛

The regular Z3 coupes are shit and look ridiculous.

It's the M that matters. 😛

Drove a 2008 M Coupe a while back, as I posted in The Garage a while back. Very cool car, very good performance.

right, b/c the cars look sooo different

if you like it so much now is a great time to pick one up, 06 Z4M is like mid 20s

Well, the body styling may be the same, but the chassis, suspension, and engine obviously, are all worked/tuned, so yes, your experience driving a Z3 M would be different than driving a Z4 or Z3.

I am specifically responding to your comment:
"The regular Z3 coupes are shit and look ridiculous."

Clearly the M version is a different car mechanically, the biggest difference to me is the power hydrolic vs electronic steering in the regular Z4. After that comes S54, suspension and the m3 CSL breaks.

I test drove the Z4M again before I moved on to a new car, great car.
