Stay away from John Holtz in Rochester, NY. I took my car in a few weeks ago to get a bunch of work done (timing belt, rear diff seals, 60k service, alignment) It turns out they didnt do anything but the oil change and the alignment and maybe the timing belt. I brought the car to a mechanic friend of mine today to try and figure out why one of my brakes was dragging, and when it was up there we noticed that the rear end wasnt even touched - still full of oil, not a single mark on any nuts or bolts, nothing done to it. I can't get in there to see if they did the timing belt service or not -- it doesnt look like anything was touched, and there isnt a water pump listed on the parts list.

I'm going to them on Monday and see how they react, I'm pretty pissed off right now.


The car is a 97 A4.
 
Contact Audi's North American headquarters. Report the dealership. Give them all the evidence that you did not get the work done that you paid for. Audi then contacts that particular dealer and does one of two things:

1- Strips them of their dealer licence on the spot.
2- Tells them to make it right immediately for free, keeps an eye on them for the next few years, and if they ever get another similar complaint, strips them of their dealer licence.

Either way, you win.

Audi doesn't just take away dealership charters left and right. No car dealer does. It's not good business. I'm sure everyone here knows several car dealerships that are total crap, and routinely screw people, give poor service, etc that don't get shut down. It's not in the best interest of the car brand to shut down dealers.

You might be able to get the work done for real if you complain loud enough.

Hence the possibility of option 2 in my post. If he does call and complain, and has receipts showing that he did go in for service which wasn't done, he will almost certainly get the job done right with no further charge.

But then you're left with the the dilemna: You've bitched to corporate, and corporate has bitched at the dealer. So now the dealer is forced to do the work. They're not happy about this. And you're giving them your car to work on. Do you trust their work?

Not that I'd ever go back there again after the work did get done...

European cars can't be worked on outside the dealerships. They're far too complex and sophisticated. It's part of what makes them better. For example, they haven't used internal combustion for 15 years. :thumbsup:

/me spits mouth full of water on monitor. Check, check 1 2, is the sarcasm meter on? Are you telling me a VW is not considered a European car? 'cause the autobody shop I go to fixes them just fine. And the autobody shop my relatives go to fixes just about any euro cars you can throw at them.

There was a dealership near me that screwed some guy in some weird situation kidn of like that or something. I guess the guy lives on a major road, so he put up a sign that said something about how much the dealer ship screwed him, and I'm pretty sure they paid him a lot of money or something to take the sign down.
