Got my car worked on yesterday, total was $405 otd. He even commented on how its nice when a dealership can do it cheaper than expected, he said "most dealerships would never give you such a positive feeling".. He originally thought it would be $550-600.

I paid, and left.

Today I get a call that I underpaid by $100 due to a clerical error on his part. On my bill they rolled the diagnostic fee into the work when they should have charged me for it.

What do you think?

I had a similar thing happen at a Kaufmann Tire. They gave me a free oil change and something else (I forget what) to make up for their mistake.

But since they technically "did" work, they could just draw up a seperate bill and send it to me.

I just called and paid, as the second posted said, other than that the dealership was great and I'd want to use em again.

Weak. They screwed up and should have to eat it.

Do you think for 1 second that they would have notified you if you had overpaid by $100?

I thought most garages waive the diagnostic fee if you pay them to do the repair?

If they gave you an invoice for X amount for the work they did and you paid it they legally can't come back after and say oops, we under charged you.

They screwed up, they should eat it.

So they made a mistake... they asked nicely for some courtesy. Life is not all about how can I screw someone else.

It sounds like they were not out to screw you and you didn't screw them. You got great service and they got paid. Everyone wins. Sounds like you made the right choice to me.

Some of you people are just to uptight.

While going through college I waited tables for a few years. Sorry, but we were not allowed to chase people out into the parking lot or call them at home if we forgot to add one of their entrees onto the bill they already paid for. Out the door and already paid = tough shit. You eat the price of their entree or if the manager was feeling nice, he would just comp it. But never in a million years would anyone have called a customer at home to inform them they had to come back because we forgot to add something to their bill. Car repair should be no different. The person who made the mistake should have to eat the difference or they could do this every day. It was the repair persons job to total up and present the customer with an accurate bill. If they left something out, they have failed to do their job as far as their employer goes, why would the customer have to be brought into the picture. Was it the OP's fault he paid the bill he was presented. I see the OP already called and paid them so I guess this doesn't matter now.

No, some of us don't take it in the ass. The guy may have made a mistake, or maybe their $$$ numbers weren't doing so hot so they try and scam $100 from each person in that day.

There is just something about cars and dealing with them that makes people shiesty and complete and total money grubbing whores.

I have been notified by a couple of businesses when I overpaid. So, yes, possibly.

I'd be inclined to think that way if the cost of the repairs hadn't been > $100 less than the dealership dude expected.

I agree. It sounds like an honest mistake.

All this "they are gonna screw me so screw them assholes" nonsense just make your hair fall out. :)

Sounds like you got screwed. Normally unless it's a really involved job, I've only paide a diagnostic fee if you don't have them do the work. Generally they will waive it for standard work if they do the repair (they don't want to give cheap diagnosis them have the job go out the door for someone else to fix).

I think you did the right thing. I also think the dealership should have swallowed the loss, and dealt with it without contacting you.

Agreed. That is poor customer service, and if I was running a business I would be embarrassed if one of my employees called a customer like that.

You pay for the undercoating, lot fees, delivery fees and paperwork fees when you buy a car don't you?
