Hi everyone,
I am the owner of this house. I was just googling it and came across this thread and decided to chime in.
Just to let you know it is not the cars traveling across the bridge that are the issue. It's actually the people traveling north on Bushkill Drive. The bridge plays a part in a way that a car may be stopped to turn onto the bridge and people come cruising around the blind turn and loss control and crash into my house.I will never understand why they put the bridge there. It is fairly new and that was a nightmare in it self. My husband and I have lived here 15 years and we really love this house but we are scared for our safety at this point. We can only hope that something will be done soon and now it seems as if we finally might be heard at least.

There are many people who don't deserve to drive. I would sue every person who hit my house and I'm not a person who has ever sued someone.

Thank you for posting Sonya, and explaining the situation in more detail!

My nerves would be on end every day if I had to live in your home! I hope you and your family are able to resolve this issue with the city, and live out your next 6 months (and future for that matter) in peace. 😀

Pics?

You guys need to put up some speed bumps just before the bend, so instead of the cars cruising into your house, they'll be flying into you house.

I'm thinking a turn lane would be a better solution. Hitting a speed bump in a 30 MPH zone would not be fun.

Or better yet a giant ramp so they jump over your house.

Don't forget a giant circle of flame for them to aim for the middle of.

A large boulder might be a liability, but how about several small ones? Also, sometimes cities are required to do traffic assessments before adding things like bridges etc...depending on local codes and their process, the city/town may have some liability in this.

Why not a 3-way stop sign on that intersection?

sonya729 welcome to AT off topic, yes current pictures of you if you don't mind.

Please clarify if it is indeed a stop sign on the bridge before the house, pics if possible. Or if any signs on Bushkill Drive near the house. What is the posted speed limit BTW?

Feel free to ignore the picture requests sonya, that's the standard internet rudeness protocol...this is a geek forum btw, mostly dudes who don't leave the house. 😉 Best wishes getting resolution here.

From some of these replies, it seems there is still a misunderstanding of how these accidents keep happening. From Sonya's first post, this is how I picture the events happening:

Cars B is following car A Eastbound, car A goes to turn on the new road extension (bridge), and car B is speeding around corner...and to avoid the slowing or stopped car A, slams into the house.

Kind of like this:

If you want to put boulders in your own yard go for it. If the township gives you grief, tell them its art and to go stuff where the sun don't shine.

I still don't understand a boulder being a liability.
It's on their property, not on the road.
If idiot drivers are slamming into the boulder, it's THEIR own fault.

Putting in a boulder would make them liable how exactly?

"Negligence" or something.

You know that people are running into your house. You also know that if they hit a big fat, immovable object, they will probably die. Therefore, you putting a boulder is equivalent to knowingly causing harm to the "general public". I'm not a lawyer, but with my little knowledge in contract law and being sued, that sounds about right.

After reading page 2... better to get the city to put in a guiderail to "guide them" along the road if they move off it.

Place looks too remote for illumination, but high accident rate might warrant illumination at county/city's expense.

Write your congressman/ senator/ state whatever so it ends up at the highway department.
